The Penitent is on the road again, this time heading towards Lavender Town - the place where everything began for him. Over the course of his travels he happens to pass through Saffron City, and, taking care to remain incognito, he happens to walk past the hospital.

Somewhere North of Kanto/Johto

The complications that Jack was facing became quickly apparent as Jack attempted to get a good view of the statue. He could only hold his breath for so long, and with as far down as the statue was, that gave him a very limited amount of time before he had to return to the surface and catch his breath once again.

His first few dives allowed him to find the statue and take a photo of it in its current condition. He'd paid very good money for the machine, and being useable underwater was one of the many functions he'd paid extra for it to be able to do.

By his third dive, he began looking to see how much digging he'd have to do. That would be the real challenge. But as he reached the bottom of the lake again, he got a "call" from Runt.

Runt: (Telepathy is FUN! :^D) Jack, you might want to get out of the water.

Jack: (Thinking in a way that will allow Runt to 'read/hear' what he's thinking - because Telepathy is FUN! :^D) "Why's that?"

Runt: (Telepathically) ''I have a few...'natives'...here that are warning me about a curse."

Jack wasn't sure how to respond. A 'curse'?

Jack: (Open-thinking) "What do you mean?"

Runt: (TP) They mentioned some pokemon that attacks people who look at the statue too closely. It may simply be a local who's highly territorial.

Jack: (OT) "That would make more sense."

Runt: (TP) May I recommend you come back till we find out what you're dealing with?

Jack: (OT) "That sounds...what's that?"

His thoughts were interrupted by the sight of something unusual below him - that was moving.

It was large - that much was certain. And as it got closer, it's eyes began to glow with a dark, pinkish/purpleish energy.

Jack: "That can't be good..."

And sure enough it wasn't. It was a Feraligator, and it's mouth was open wide, ready to make a meal out of him.

Without enough time to move out of the way of its current attack path, Jack instead maneuvered his legs to catch his feet on either side of the creatures jaws, allowing it to push him upwards with it until they both reached the surface.

From the shoreline, Jack's three pokemon and the assembled Mudkip all saw as Jack came up out of the water, nearly doing the splits as he stood above a Feraligator with its jaws wide open.

Runt: <Jack!>

With a blink, the Abra vanished.

In the lake, the alligator pokemon closed it's jaws and flicked it's head to throw Jack off balance and into the air. Under normal circumstances, it most certainly would have resulted in the man landing back down in the Feraligator's mouth and becoming a quick meal. Fortunately for Jack, Runt was there to catch him, appearing right below Jack's position and blinking back to the shoreline with him before either could become lunch.

Jack: "Thanks."

Runt: (TP) Don't mention it.

The Mudkip looked terrified as the Feraligator re-entered the water and began to swim towards shoreline, it's red spine growths on the back giving away its position.

Moe: <That's our cue.>

Larry: <Let's run away.>

Curly: <To stick around we'd be insane!>

Kicking up plenty of dirt behind them, the three wild pokemon bolted for the forest, leaving just Jack, Runt, Groot, and Penny standing as the massive water-type approached the shore.
