-she retreats slightly into Ever, who absently pats her head-

Ever: Don't be scared. She's a Pokemon just like you.

-they glance up at Tagg-

Something wrong? You look like you just drank flat [PEPSI ANALOGUE].

The sorceress grins.

"Yar, har, ahoy and avast, captain! I'm ready to mess the halls and swab the decks!"

-At some point in the early hours of the morning, Kai may hear a faint knock on her door - so faint, in fact, that it's as if whatever's knocking is embarrassed to be heard at all.-

-Kai almost doesn't wake up. Almost.-

-But she does, when it clicks that the knocking is not in fact an invention of her dreams.-

Kai: Hmm...?

-She gets up, and trudges to the door to check who it is.-

-The door creaks open to reveal a familiar figure, though clad in a tank top and shorts rather than her usual attire and with considerably messier hair.-

Alice: ...Hello. Sorry to disturb you. I would have messaged you ahead of time, but... at this hour of the morning, I doubted you would see it.

-Kai blinks a few times in surprise, partially due to still being half asleep, but once the surprise fades, Kai adopts a warm smile-

Kai: Oh, hey, Alice, no worries. Is something up?

Alice: No. Well, yes, there is something, but I would hardly qualify it as an immediate danger to either of us. I... I would usually deal with it myself, but...

-She trails off, pointedly avoiding eye contact with Kai.-

"You're having a lot of fun with this, aren't you?" Colt asked Mew, half-tempted to reach over and pet the Psychic-type. He remembered how Silas handled it and retracted his hand, but the look in his eyes when he fantasized about petting her remained the same.

"Well," Absent yawned as he stretched his arms. "I guess we're doing this, then. Are we going straight into adventure or are we gonna rest up?" He asked. "I am not awake enough, let me tell ya."

-Kai tilts her head, and steps out of the way to let Alice through.-

Kai: Sure, sure, feel free, come in.

Forte: Well anyway, let me set that right for you. So you see, up until about 2007 people thought that whether a move counts as physical or special was based on what type of move it was, but then they examined the techniques a little more closely and it turns out—

-a bell rings-

-and within a matter of seconds, all of the students have left-

Forte: And then— hey! I'm not done explaining!

-after the classroom empties, Polly returns, and her Vaporeon leaps into her arms-

Polly: I trust the kids didn't give you too much trouble?

Forte: Uh, no, not at all. I tried to teach them everything I could about Vaporeon.

Polly: Hm, what do you think? Did they pass?

Forte: Uh?

-Polly's Vaporeon nods-

Polly's Vaporeon: <Very knowledgeable, good at holding the children's attention.>

Polly: Well, I'm pleased to see that.

Forte: I think there was a mix-up though. I'm supposed to be taking a Vaporeon trial from you since I'm the apprentice of—

Polly: Silly child, I know all about that. The lesson was your trial!

Forte: ...Oh. It was?

Polly: What better way to demonstrate your skill than by passing it on to the next generation? And Vaporeon here thinks you performed quite well.

-Polly's Vaporeon nods again-

Forte: Uh... well, thanks.

Polly: Here, for you.

-Polly hands a blue crystal to Forte-

Polly: Time is like a river, always flowing in one direction. No matter what you try to do, you can't help but get swept away by the flow... but it's good to see our knowledge as Eevee users won't be forgotten.

Alice: Thank you.

-She steps through into the room, standing stiffly as though ill at ease with something and still looking at anything but Kai.-

Alice: I... just to be clear, I'm not intruding, am I?

-Kai shakes her head-

Kai: Don't worry, I'm the only one in here. You caught me at an awkward time last time, but this time everything's cool, don't worry.

-She smiles-

Kai: Whatever's going on, I'd be glad to help, no matter how early or late.

Alice: O-okay.

-Her voice is wavering uncharacteristically before she clears her throat in an attempt to steady herself and manages to finally look at Kai.-

Alice: I... I realise that this may seem like an unusual request, and rather forward given the short time we have been together, but... may I stay here for the remainder of the night? I believe it may help... ameliorate certain conditions, though I will understand if doing so would make you uncomfortable.

Well, let's just say Mobius and Iron apparently have some big guns that we'll have to deal with. Figures after what my sister told me about the whole rescue Alli mission that they'd have more things up their sleeve.

-Kai blinks. And then it clicks.-

Kai: ...Oh. Oh, yeah, you're free to stay. I know that feeling all too well. You wanna talk about it?

Alice: It... I must admit, I've never been into detail about...

-She falls quiet, and seems to wrestle with the question for a good thirty seconds before continuing with a sigh.-

Alice: ...I should clarify that Brie is not at fault here. Asking about the... the circumstances of my passing is a perfectly normal response to hearing of it, and I thought I had reached a point where such questions no longer triggered such vivid recollections. Apparently I was mistaken.

Kai: ...Ah...

-She offers Alice a hug, pausing to see if she accepts it before saying more.-

Alice: ...Thank you. I... do you mind if we discuss this further in the morning? I'm not sure I'm in the right condition to do so at the moment...

-Kai just nods-

Kai: Of course. In the meantime, I can just keep you company, if you'd like.

-She sits down on the bed, once again glancing away from Kai.-

Alice: I... it would be appreciated if you kept this incident between us. I don't mean to ask you to hide anything, but... it has been a long time since I had a night like this, and I would rather not discuss that fact with anyone else.

Ever: Awesome. Do you have any idea how boring it's been getting only fighting random trainers? And apparently there was something going on yesterday, which I missed because Merle didn't see fit to warn me.

Merle: <I was occupied.>

Ever: With?

Merle: <Not caring.>

Ever: -sighs-

Glimmer: <...Could I evolve?>

Ever: Uh, no, I'm not taking you into boss fights.

-Kai follows Alice, sitting up on the bed next to her.-

Kai: Certainly. I am nothing if not an adamant secret-keeper, so I'll make sure nobody hears of this.

-She smiles, and pulls Alice into cuddles.-

Kai: Now, I could do with a couple hours more sleep, if you don't mind.

-Alice manages a wan smile as she lies back on the bed, pulling Kai down with her and squeezing her tightly.-

Alice: Not at all. I imagine getting to sleep will be much easier like this, though I should preemptively apologise for all the bruises my thrashing about may leave on your shins.

Kai: Trust me, I'm no stranger to restless nights. Hopefully it'll be a bit more restful like this.

-She gently kisses Alice's cheek, before snuggling up and drifting off.-
