Comparing Societies through Short Stories

Comparing and contrasting radically different cultures has always been an interest of mine. I just wonder how I could go about doing it?

I was thinking of using two hypothetical societies; one from the distant past, like early man on the Savannas of Africa, that is very 'organic', and one from the distant future that is fully 'artificial'?

I guess just having characters from one culture comment on the other and vice versa.
