Yeah, now that I think of it, Star Fox had always been kind of a "tech-demo"y series. At least early on.

I've never played Command, but why does it suck that bad from what I keep hearing? Most people love Star Fox 2. are there things Command botched completely when it came to adapting Star Fox 2 stuff?

I don't know why people think it sucks, but I'd guess it has something to do with the multiple contradicting endings, how battles are always one-on-many, how need to plan out your battles strategically...

I personally liked it. More than Adventures and probably more than Assault. I kept playing it even after I had gotten all the endings.

Though I would prefer a return to missions with the rest of the team. Maybe different paths...

As a person who disliked ("hate" is such a strong word) Command and is fond of strategy games, I think it wasn't good because the story sucked and derailed several of the characters and the gameplay was very bland and boring. The time limit on every fight wasn't welcome either. It basically just didn't feel like a Star Fox game at all.

@NUL: EAD doesn't make Kirby, HAL Laboratory does.

@Halberdier: Nintendo isn't "sometimes" referred to as EAD. EAD is the core development team of Nintendo. Nintendo refers to the whole collective of console development, marketing, and all subsidiaries.

You know how so many of the characters' last names sound so...I dunno, upperclass?

McCloud, Lombardi, O'Donnell, Powalski, Caroso...

In contrast to Hare, Toad, Pepper...

I'm wanting to believe that that's because those characters were from really rich families on Corneria.

Falco Lombardi was a poor kid who grew up in the slums and had a rivalry with Fox as early as 10 years old, that much was established in Canon. Probably the same with Wolf too due to his demeanor, though I've never heard his origin story.

But Panther Caruso? Yeah, the guy makes a point to act classy, so it wouldn't surprise me if he had an entitled upbringing but choose the military life for thrills.

I'd really love some Star Fox backstory in the new game...

Seeing Fox at the Cornerian Flight Academy or Wolf's life in crime...

Or Krystal's life on Cerinia.

Fox: All right guys. If we're going to be the best, we're going to have to cut off our legs!

It was all uphill from there.

I want to be able to gather various characters in the Grey Fox to send out on missions with their own unique ships.

Great Fox?

Well first in Star Fox 64 it looked like this. Then in Assault it looked like this. I attributed that to General Pepper's payment for Fox saving Dinosaur Planet. Along with their new clothes. ;p

Then after Peppy crashed it the Great Fox looked like this, which didn't look like the Great Fox at all...actually it looks like what Star Wolf would use if they could afford it.

I'd rather hope for the new game that they'd use the old shape. It's a classic...

I'm sure Star Fox will just buy another ship that looks like their old Great Fox. Only this time, their Great Fox III will have guns in more places than just the front (which is the thing that sucked about the first one).

My suggestion for the next iteration of the Great Fox: missiles.

Lots of missiles, like the way the Caldari do it.

I wish/hope there would be some kind of customization in the new game...maybe fly with someone other than Fox for the main story.

Ship modifications, new on-foot weapons...just anything cool and new.

The hate fans have for Star Fox Adventures all originates from Rare's ambitions:

Yes Nintendo had them change Sabre to Fox Mc Cloud and the game into a Star Fox game yet it ultimately results from Rare's own changes to the game....

As mentioned from Rare's Scribes and from the game files the game was originally a Diddy Kong Racing sequel and as the files showed Sabre was originally Timber the Tiger!

If Rare hadn't replaced Timber the Tiger with Sabre Nintendo would have had them turn the game into a Donkey Kong game with Timber as a playable character possibly increasing the number of playable characters ingame(namely Timber, DK and Krystal).

The original plot of Wizpig being the main villain would have continued as well!

In the end the one to blame for a different from usual Star Fox game is Rare itself!

Nintendo would have had to make their missing Star Fox game themselves and got the bonus of having Rare add one more Donkey Kong game had Rare decided to not replace Timber...

[up]I like reading up on development notes and behind the scenes stuff. Do you have a source on that?

http://mundorare.com/news/2008/11/dinosaur-planet-originally-was-diddy-kong-racing-2/

I once read the actual scribe post yet the website seems to have removed the Scribes part of the Rare website.

This link is the one that reveals Timber's part as Sabre's original predecessor.

Rare's ambition in wanting to create a unique franchise with no ties to DK backfired in the worst way for all parties involved.

If they hadn't replaced Timber with Sabre they would have most likely been forced by Miyamoto to give us a DK game as parting gift before leaving Nintendo...

Nintendo would have been forced to not be lazy and create a Star Fox game themselves.

...Okay, two things: First, that second source is wiki, thats not most trustworthy source. Secondly, even if that is true, thats apparently something that was changed really early considering that site with details on old version is detailed enough to have whole game up to finale, most of which made it to Star Fox version under slightly different circumstances. Aka, its irrelevant even if first iteration of game was about random minor character from racing game, it clearly wasn't so for long.

I mean, the first article says game was originally going to be Diddy Kong Racing 2 of all things? Thats rather different from Dinosaur Planet. REALLY different to the point I'm being like "Wait, what, if that is true, how the frick they got from racing game to action adventure game?"

Someone must be clairvoyant...Star Fox Wii U must be life-changing if Star Fox Adventures is going for almost 1 trillion dollars.

Or it's the last working game in the world forever.

According to the banter between Aonuma and Miyamoto in the Zelda Wii U Gameplay footage shown at the Video Game Awards, Star Fox Wii U will be out before Zelda Wii U next year.

You know, I can only hope that Star Fox U is as epic as Assault. While 64 is great and all, Assault remains my favorite Star Fox game.

[up]Aww heck no, none of that all-range mode or on-foot stuff! What made Star Fox unique was the on-rails sections in the Arwings and the dogfights, stick to what works!

I have a feeling the overall length is still going to be a problem though. The Star Fox games were never very long to begin with and really relied upon players wanting to go back and try finding the alternate routes to Venom. After that you could try to beat the high scores for each planet, but by that point you were already grinding the levels over and over in hopes of getting that one level right. Zoness and Venom path A from Star Fox 64 came to mind as being particularly annoying, since they had such a high score to beat.

I actually really like the idea of Star Fox U basically having the same controls as Kid Icarus Uprising (probably because that game was originally going to be a Star Fox game). I think the Gamepad will eliminate any problems people had with KIU's controls, since you can easily rest it on your lap.

But that also might hurt the possibility of an Uprising sequel on Wii U, so I also kind of don't want that.

Personally I think it would be cool that for each mission you get to choose which member of the team you wish to play. Different members mean strengths, weaknesses, and objectives.

Say a mission involved Slippy piloting a landmaster to blaze a path for a convoy. Falco and Fox provide air support and reconaissance, while Peppy heads out on foot and leads the infantry support composed of NPC allies.

Choose Slippy to pilot a tank, Fox or Falco engage in dogfights and airstrikes, or Peppy for the firefights.

I only have one request for Star Fox U. One and one only.

Bring in Miyu and Fay. That would be awesome. It would be the best delayed debut since ever.
