Well, if the apparition displayed knowledge of verifiable information that the person seeing it wouldn't have known at the time but the dead person would have, that would probably serve to 'locate the hypothesis'.

Obviously it's imaginable that such evidence could arise, otherwise it wouldn't be at all significant that it hasn't.

Well, if an apparition could even provide evidence on its own accord to the proper authorities that would be something. It wouldn't even need to the proper evidence.
