Are there any good ones for realism?

Too many if you ask me. Just look at the Mod database website (moddb.com), half of them stopped production because they realised how many others out there were trying to do the same thing.

The only mod I've used so far is the "Eastern Front" mod. It adds the Soviets as a playable faction for the Allies, and the modders plan to add in the Ostheer (aka the eastern German divisions that invaded the USSR) if their mod is successful... which so far, it is.

That one does sound good. Does it add swastikas?

Is there a mod for the various forces during the Blitzkrieg?

Umm, sorry, no swaztikas... is that even spelled right?tongue

The best ones to look for are the Blitzkrieg mod or the Battle of the Bulge. There's a lot of other interesting ones to look at as well, so just check out the address below to see them.

I haven't really managed to play Eastern Front with other players, but I can assure you it's pretty awesome from what I'll played with comps.

Before I look into this, do they require much fooling around to install?

Swastikas, S.S. uniforms, the lot. If I'm fighting the Germans, I want to be fighting Nazis. If I'm playing as the Germans, it is only fitting that my army is properly decked out in these sinister symbols and badges.

There are some skin mods that add in the SS stormtroopers as well as re-color the tanks to match, but then again I think the Wermacht's Terror and Blitzkrieg doctrine already have them if I'm not mistaken.

As for installing them... well I honestly cannot say. It really depends on how good you are at following the directions they give you in the readme, not mention how well you can find your way around the files inside your comp. Since I'm running Windows 7, the only tricky part was extracting the data from the zip file and placing it in the proper location within the THQ Company of Heroes folder. And that's if the auto-installer doesn't figure it out for you automatically.

[up]Is that even allowed?! The last few games that tried to post their game mods and sell them got kicked out of Greenlight.

EDIT: Oh wait, they're posting it for free. Well it's definately a high-quality game, but still... I just don't feel that it belongs on Greenlight.

And yet they look so identical to the normal Wermachct faction... :/

Not to be nit-picky, especially considering that they were picking units and vehicles that actually served on the Eastern Front; hell, their whole faction name basically means Eastern Army! But couldn't they have... I dunno, created an entirely new nation altogether? Like say, the Imperial Army, or even the Italians?

They probably couldn't think of a way to make the Italians seem like a threat without dramatically breaking from history.

I found another cool one - The Great War 1918. You can build trenches, both sides make use of officers, gas can be used to make enemies retreat or blind them, and there's melee combat! There's also a nifty "hold position" feature for some of the infantry units to make sure they sit still in that good cover you placed them in instead of dancing about. I'm also pretty sure small arms fire farther than in vanilla to aid the feel.

Might have been three years ago, but I did find a mod that's hardcore realistic as heck - Blitzkrieg-Mod.

It is presumed to be called Blitzkrieg because the war lasts the duration of lightning for units in bad positions.

Unit pools and commanders trees are also hugely deep.

Ever feel like Asia gets underrepresented for WW 2? A beta version of a China vs. Japan mod was released last year, the Far East War.

Wasn't that a rather one-sided war, even despite the fact that the Japanese Army was still under-equipped compared to the US and other countries involved during the war? And that the best the Chinese had were a bunch of crappy French, British and American hand-me-downs?

Makes me wonder just why the heck haven't Relic ever touched the Imperial Japanese Army and USMC, lots of material on that front would translate perfectly into the gameplay of the Co H series. Or heck, even the Chinese militia, as shown in this Mod.

BTW there's also a Humble Bundle special going on for the Company of Heroes franchise. If you donate $10 USD, you'll pretty much unlock everything that's been released for Co H 2 so far, including a digital artbook. If you've been on the fence regarding purchasing the game, now would be the time - I've never seen the offers on Steam get this low nor offer so much.

Aaaaand here comes all of the comments on Steam about how the modding community is outshining Relic's actual attempt at the Ostheer versus the Soviets. Typical.
