Pretty much of us know of the 'console wars' and how many people say personal computer gaming is dying... but do you really think you go in a crowd for a specific platform?

I don't think I ever have, as I don't really see much topic potential with such a focus as I can't see there being very much to discuss about on any platforms themselves aside from individual games, where you might as well go on a board that discusses games in general (like this one!) rather than limiting oneself to a specific console. I think most fans of a platform are probably more just sticking with games on a platform rather than actively staying away from stuff they don't like (like why metal fans won't be frequenting a classical music site).

But, say if you think differently!

I know metal fans who enjoy classic...

In any case, my answer is simply no. My current consoles tell enough. PS 3, PSP, DS. And I'd buy a Wii if I could get it secondhand. The 360 doesn't really do it for me, simply because, I don't like their exclusives.

Any sufficiently-experienced gamer will have an easier time playing games on multiple platforms.

Also, PC gaming has never been better. With all the freeware, independent games, direct download services, people figuring out how to use game engines such as Game Maker better, etc., the PC is rapidly becoming one of the best platforms for finding truly creative games. When people claim that PC gaming is "dying," they're only looking at sales of boxed copies on store shelves.

In truth, the biggest factor that determines a person's platform preference is what platform they already have, regardless of what they say. If they have more than 1 platform they'll probably rave about the one they have the most games for.

Wouldn't that be the other way around? People get systems and more games for systems they prefer instead of preferring what they have?

I own a NES, Mega Drive, SNES, Play Station, N64, PS 2, X Box, Wii, PSP and a DS. Also, my PC is for gaming mostly. I go where the games are. Although I guess I do have some measure of brand loyalty towards Nintendo, as some of my fondest childhood memories are of playing Zelda or Mario.

Let's just say I have a buttload of systems. I'd say I play my DS and GBA SP the most, though.

Anyway, the only series that I had all the systems for(that is a good system anyway) was Nintendo and Sony. I fully owned all the Nintendo systems(including most releases atleast once, no more than 3 copies of a system, though) except the Virtual Boy and my own Game Boy. I have had a PSX, PS 2 Slim, PS 3 Slim, and PSP. The Go sucks, so I won't bother with it.

To answer your initial question, I mostly don't PC game.(not counting online forum games like We Are Our Avatars)

Nowadays, outside of handheld I only have time to game on my PC (I also have a Wii).

Handheld-wise, I'm contemplating buying another one for its exclusive games.

In the current generation I have all five major consoles (PS 3, Xbox 360, Wii, DS, PSP) and a gaming PC. The same has happened to me for EVERY generation since the Mega Drive days. Right now, I'd say the PS3 is the best console on the market.

I own every major 7th-gen platform except the PS3 (360, Wii, DS, PSP). Even then, I strive to be platform-neutral.

Was the same case till I finally had enough extra money for a PS 3 Slim. Had to find a non-bundle version, since I'm not interesting in Football video games.(especially stuff like Madden. Super Tecmo Bowl and other similar games were actually fun, not a cash cow franchise)

I'm a bit of a "behind-the-wave" gamer, mostly because my budget won't support dropping $60 on new games constantly.

I currently own my PC, which I game a lot off of, a Wii (which was a wedding gift), a DS (my wife's first b-day gift to me), and a PS 2 (which I bought myself and have owned for years).

I own the most games for my PS 2 and PC, because I can mostly get the games cheap through Steam or used from other game stores. And, I have the advantage from being behind on the cutting edge of being able to have a few years worth of player experience ahead of me. This means that I have the choicest fruits of a vast garden of old games. Anybody else with me?

I own a Genesis(which is the second hardest platform for me to get games for) and a 32X(the hardest), with a Dreamcast in holding.(or next to my file cabinet right now) I know how you feel, man. The more consoles you have, the more choices you have. Plus, most of the older games are quite better(or atleast not riddled with stupid gimmicks that really make the game hard to play and/or enjoyable. Phantom Hourglass is a pretty good example of this)

Current gen I have a Wii, DS, and a $400 play-The-Last-Guardian-machine. Also have a PS 2 I bought from a coworker and dozens of used games for it, plus a Dreamcast, GBA SP, and a non-working Genesis that I need to fix.

Wii and a DS. I'd totally buy the PS 3 or a PSP if I had the cash. Both have some awesome-looking exclusives that I'm interested in. I'm not particularly interested in either the 360 or the PC.

DS, PC, and occasionally my Gamecube and PS 2. I lost my SP a few years ago along with Pokemon Gold.sad

But I'm fairly non-fanboyish. I might stick to topics I know, but I won't bash another console or its games. Considering my very small collection of games, it's not worth me complaining about it.

Well, one thing I've noticed is that relatively few people actually identify as fans of exclusively one company. Part of it is probably the backlash against fanboys, which started as online gaming communities started to come together. After all, there's nothing more annoying than having an interesting conversation interrupted by someone who only wants to talk about how their console is so much better. Obsessive fans have to be more stealthy these days.

The only current-gen consoles is a Wii and DS but I intend on buying a PS 3. I do prefer Nintendo over Microsoft/Sony, but I'm not exactly very fanboyish about it, and I have prefered Sony in the past.

I have a PS 3, PSP, PS 2, DS and a Wii (in the order, I bought them). So, I'm a pretty diverse console gamer now. Strangely enough, until two years ago, I was only a PC gamer (although that was only because I had no consoles, aside from a rarely used GBA). But now, I rarely play PC games, although I enjoy Freeware games quite much.

When I was a child (and had no computer), I had a Master System, I played often with.

I don't think much of these console wars. Don't even get me started on that PC vs. console nonsense.

I own 2 PS 2's, one of which is a Region 2 PS 2, PSP, DS, Wii, and a PS 3 now. I've also owned a SNES, Genesis and the 32x, Game Boy Color, Game Gear, N64, PS 1, Xbox, Gamecube, and a Dreamcast.

As you can tell, I love playing video games too much to play favorites. >_>
