I guess it's because EH tells stories, which generate discussion better than game design.
Though I seem to recall I sought this thread out when I wanted to discuss the Simulation Sickness episode.
Fresh-eyed movie blogI've had Extra Play backlogged for weeks in my Feedly (I find using my RSS reader more convenient than Youtube subscriptions) and I finally finished catching up today. It feels so wrong for my Feedly to be completely empty.
Maybe I'll have to go back and watch the Bastion videos. I watched the first one and decided the game was too dull as a thing to watch devs talk over.
Fresh-eyed movie blogExtra History is continuing the history of Emperor Justinian. Except this is about the end of his glory days.
Well, that's an ominous cliffhanger.
I have a message from another time...And the new Extra History is up.
Holy crap, I can barely imagine just how scared the people must've been.
I thought that their description of cholera was one of the grimmest things they'd ever written...but then we get the Plague of Justinian. Just...damn.
Disease: the true villain of human history.
It's horror that defies adequate description.
I have a message from another time...And it is seldom accurately described... We gloss over Disease so much, more so even than famine.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. The White Rider comes upon silent hooves.
The White Rider is Conquest. There's never really been a Pestilence, if I recall correctly.
Oh, I know, but I generally agree with the, "Steps too much on War's hooves," interpretation.
Besides, none but Death were ever explicitly named.
To be fair, the passage introducing the White Rider went something like this in translations:
"Then I saw when the Lamb broke one of the seven seals, and I heard one of the four living creatures saying as with a voice of thunder, “Come.” I looked, and behold, a white horse, and he who sat on it had a bow; and a crown was given to him, and he went out conquering and to conquer."
Definitely more Conquest than Pestilence there. Besides, I always assumed that Conquest was more "Death for the purpose of victory" and War was more "Death for the sake of battle."
Why do you war, if not to claim some form of victory?
I have a message from another time...To kill people? For the thrill of battle, regardless if you win or lose?
I probably worded things badly in my previous post.
Anywho, the interpretation of the White Rider changed after the Black Plague, and I feel it's more appropriate.
I recall that the "Pestilence" interpretation came around the early 1900s or something (got to double-check that). Besides, since when does pestilence wear a crown? A conqueror is more fit for a crown and a bow.
A bonus episode of Extra History was released today. This episode talks about the Battle of Kursk.

And that, folks, is why on Hogans Heroes, transfer to the Eastern/Russian Front was a worse fate than a death sentence for the Nazi soldiers.
Fresh-eyed movie blogThe new Extra Credits episode will be talking about Suleiman of the Ottoman Empire.
That is an extremely poignant framing device.
I have a message from another time...I thought it was rather cliche.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
Geez, people only post Extra History episodes here instead of Extra Credits episodes xD
