@Faramir: I'm gonna take a leap and say wizard vs aircraft wouldn't be much of a fight.

Low altitude: Little Bird on a gun run; no joy.

Mid Altitude: AC-130, Apache gunship, Warthog...tend to ruin your day.

High Altitude: And fast mover, or any plane that begins with B

... Seriously? I mean, take ten wizards, five with hippogriphs, all armed with some sort of corrosive potion and wands, I think it's pretty even.

Or fly close to it with their brooms and kill the pilot, or jump on it with a hipogrif?

That depends on what kind of air support we would call in. Can a broom or a hippogrif break the sound barrier?

I still think wizards should've smartened up in the past 20 years.

From what I remember of the books, the wizard community at large was fairly clueless as to what muggles were actually capable of. The ministry's own "muggle expert" barely knew what a toaster was.

Again, I think that the first mission is meant as a bit of a wake up call for the wizards.

@Faramir:

• Are hippogriff's more maneuverable than aircraft?
• Are they faster than aircraft?
• Would you be alive long enough to get into visual range?
• How high can you go on a hippogriff before hypoxia sets in?

What you described is pretty much the aerial equivalent of a suicide bomber charging a tank with a termite grenade. and we know how well insurgents do against tanks.

Ok, so wizards haven't smartened up in the past 20 years as much as I'd like, and this is a wake-up call for them... would everyone be panicking at the arrival of the muggles?

@ Scholastica: My character's a student in her last year at hogwarts, my guess is she's late, and she's arriving just as things mess up bad. Would a muggle capture her?

Aw man, that world building thread about Dragons vs. Airplanes got wiped. It looked so cool too...

They would if they are shooting and there a bunch of 11 year old nearby.

So everyone's freaking out, muggles are drawing guns on people, and a late student arrives just as the train is leaving. Which one of you psychos would use me as a meat shield?

I'm really new to the whole "Free-form Forum RPG in HP universe" thing, I didn't mean to get in the GM's Turf.

There are other people to see after the other students. If I can save one then I should try. And I'm Hogwarts new History teacher.
