What Aya's hat lacks in the sheer style present in Pyonta or Eiki's judge hat, it has in practicality. It doubles as a cup. The stringy things probably have some use too, like using them to dip the cup hat into a sake river that you just can't reach.

And it makes sense to personalize your hats. It would be the height of boorish manners and probably not half unhygienic to drink out of another person's hat.

That brings up an issue. And one that may upset some fans. Or at least the crazy ones.*

Ayayayayayaya is somewhere adjacent or over a thousand years old. She comes from a traditional sort of society that plays by hierarchical rules. Its not out of the question that she could be in some sort of arranged marriage. Or past tense. "Society quakes as famous couple splitsville! 'Good riddance' says our pure and honest reporter!"

So, yeah, there may be baby and/or slightly grown Ayayayaya offspring running about. I think I saw at least one fanwork with Aya's disgruntled daughter as a character.

I'd imagine that most animal youkai have children too, given that they lived more than a full life as an animal before becoming a youkai. Chen's surely had litters and litters of kittens.

Not that Aya is strictly speaking an animal youkai (maybe?), but I'd just imagine that quite a few of the other characters probably have children as well.

Its something I mentioned when we discussed Tewi, yeah. Its just like you said.

For some reason I see a "children raise parents" type of thing where Aya's offspring turns out more mature and down to earth than Aya is. (As the above post implied) Hilarity ensues.

But yeah, I agree. I wouldn't be surprised if most of the animal youkai have had at least some form of offspring, even if it predates their youkaidom.

I'm hoping that none of the rabbit youkai that Tewi keeps trying to sell are her offspring. Its fairly unlikely, given her age.

It's not like Suwako, who appears young but seems older.

This is shortly before she's being a Suwakopter, and shortly after she landed on top of Sanae's head. And she gives that speech with this in the background. She's got the whole 'mature cute' thing down to an art.

Hatate is secretly Aya's daughter, but she was raised by a foster family, Aya accepted her as her rival in hopes she would adopt her skills.

I have no horse, and I must ride. I accomplish unlockments.

Maybe that's why Aya's so independent now. She got stuck in an arranged marriage that didn't work out.

Hatate Shameimaru...has a nice ring to it. Then again, most names sound awesome if they're followed by 'Shameimaru'. Try it and see.

Can I just say both of you guys are correct? (Although I wouldn't be surprised if raigakuren's was just a happy coincidence)

Anyway Aya. She flies around. I wonder, can flying youkai like her fly outside Gensoukyou, or would the Hakurei Border smack into them like a wall?

I'm guessing the Border is shaped like either a cardboard tube or a dome with a hole at the top. If she flew high enough, she'd get out.

She'd also be in space.

Also, everyone flies in Gensokyo. Aya's just really, really fast at it.

I think youkai have been known to wander outside the border. I don't know how much belief they need to continue existing, though.
