Yes, it would. However, in the story where Rinnosuke first revealed his theory, it wasn't clear if he was right or not, at least as far as I can tell. (if I recall, later on a rare bird arrives in Gensoukyou. Rinnosuke assumes this proves his theory is correct and they are showing up because they are thought to be endangered/extinct in the real world, but it is later revealed that they just randomly wandered through the boundary. In other words, the event doesn't prove anything.)

Of course, by Rinnosuke's logic, there should be dinosaurs in Gensoukyou because they are thought to be extinct in the real world. (actually, this would be awesome)

EDIT: In otherwords, yes, Rinnosuke is right, but it seems to have been more of a lucky guess than anything.

Good. Anyway, I kinda think we should move on, since we've talked about nothing in particular for the last four pages.

But...but...Akyuu! There is more to talk about, right? Just because you guys wanted to talk about...random stuff.

While we are on the topic if Rinnosuke's theory/Miko's fact, I still think that it is kinda silly. So things just magically appear in Gensoukyou because the real world doesn't believe in them? I could get "Yukari gaps them into Gensoukyou because they would ruin the border of reality and fantasy if they showed up in the real world that doesn't believe in them anymore", but Ten Desires seems to imply that it just happens. How does that work?

Is there anything else you want to say about Akyuu?

There could be a youkai that summons them, and a sufficiently large dinosaur could be the background of a stage... and as a result teh background itself would attack you in that boss battle

Really? No more Akyuu? You guys are no fun.

Dinosaurs in Touhou is metal. Maybe too metal.*

OFF TOPIC: I don't like Ten Desires's EX Boss's design. She is basicly Raccoon Chen with glasses to me. Not one of ZUN's more distinct designs. (Come to think of it, Ten Desires also has zombie Meiling, evil Taoist blonde Mima and evil Taoist Male Shingyoku. Maybe ZUN is running out of ideas?*

)

Although I hate to be a killjoy*

, I don't think dinosaurs would work. The way I think it works is stuff turns up in Gensokyo once people outside start thinking it's a story. People started thinking that Miko was mythical, so her tomb worked itself across the barrier. Too many people think that dinosaurs actually existed for them to be a myth.

Also, I like Mamizou's design, especially the leaf hat. A tanuki is a rather odd EX Boss, though. Next to a vampire, a kyuubi, Yukari, an immortal, a goddess, a very disturbing child, a nameless ancient horror, and a witch...well...

Koishi doesn't fit in that list either. And if you add the PC-98 EX Bosses, you've got a giant battle tank, two demon gods and a girl channeling massive arcane powers to that list.

If you throw in the midbosses you add the third magician of the series, a shikigami cat, a were-hakutaku (inb4CAVED), another goddess, the shrine maiden of both goddesses , a SURPRISE umbrella and a couple of fairies to the list.

So if were done with Akyuu who do we go to next?

zombie Meiling
I don't know enough about Mima and Shingoku to discuss them, but where are you getting this? They're both Chinese(-based), yes, but Meiling is a "screw danmaku, I'mma get all up in your face" martial artist, whereas Yoshika is a "can't freaking stay dead" zombie/jiang-shi. Yes, they also both happen to be gatekeepers in a sense, but they're still pretty different characters.

And more to the topic, can we start doing the TD characters next, now that the game's out and being translated?

I know some people wanted to do Kyouko Kasodani next, and some people wanted to hold off in case she was the EX midboss or something (hint: she's not).

If we're voting then I vote for Kaguya (again), Yoshika, and the mystery fairies three.

OR

EPIC RELIGIOUS WAR! Sanae Kochiya (Shinto) vs Byakuren Hijiri (Buddhist) vs Toyosatomimi no Miko (Taoist, and best name ever, btw).

I want to vote Patchouli. Or possibly Voile the SDM library Voile, if we haven't covered it enough in the SDM discussion. (I'm a forgetful old coot and I sometimes skip whole pages because I can't keep up with the speed of discussion, so I'm not entirely sure.)

You do know I was joking about the Zombie Meiling, Evil Taoist Mima, and Evil Taoist Yinyang orb guy, right? I don't seriously think that. (although someone did point out/speculate about how Yoshika seems to be a send up of "lazy useless Meiling" and/or "hungry eats anything Yuyuko" fanonness?) Raccoon Chen I am still bleh about though.

Also, still no Akyuu? Really? Mystia got more (on topic) talk!

Grr. Fine. I vote Sanae, Kaguya, Byakuren.

Possibly, but I kinda want a better excuse to pop in with a pondering about, say, whether it's more a repository for Patchouli's magic books (or books on magic), or actually a reasonably-diverse home library. Among other things.

^ I did not know, actually. Sorry about the mix-up.

Forget about it.

"Hey. Uhm, Miss Kamishirasawa. Please come sit with me for a moment."

"Oh, gee. What is it, Akyuhm... Miss Hieda? It's not like you to be so formal."

"Ah, yeah. You're probably right."

"Did something happen? I thought you were always very secretive about those times when you are all moping about thinking about your horrible fate and the future of our world and everything."

The small girl winces.

"Keine, I appreciate your honesty, but I would appreciate it more to not be treated as one of your students. No matter what I look like, I am still your senior."

"Ah, I'm really sorry. I thought I could get a smile out of you, since, you know–"

"Yes, I know. Listen. That... young woman I told you about. Mokou."

"Oh, yes."

The small girl continues to stare into emptiness for a moment longer, then raises her head to look the teacher straight in the eyes.

"How is she doing? Is she eating well? Has she started opening up to you more?"

The teacher looks on in surprise.

"Oh, yes! I think she's taken a shine to me, over time, that is. She started smiling a little more. I still have to bring her something good every once in a while, but she's not nearly as malnourished as she was when I first met her."

"Hmmh. Hmm. Were you able to get her to talk about who she is?"

The teacher scowls slightly in an expression torn between amused relief and disappointment.

"Well. I didn't ask her too many questions. She recently went so far as to tell me that there is something in her past that she regrets, but she barely even remembers what it is and doesn't want to talk about it. I thought I saw a diary lying around in her hut... Oh, no, don't look at me like that now, Missus. I hope you aren't expecting me to betray her trust and peek into that diary, because–"

"No, no, nothing of the sort! Please don't accuse me of such a thing."

"So, what is it? Are you actually sincerely concerned with that girl?"

The small girl looks into the emptiness again as she scratches an itch on her cheek that doesn't seem to want to go away.

"I suppose 'concerned' is a good way to put it."

The teacher smiles.

"So it is. I must say, I was pleasantly surprised when you so transparently told me about that girl living in the bamboo forest in order to get me to investigate. I thought it was very sweet in a very Akyuu-like way."

"Keine, please."

"Now, I'm only complimenting you! Please accept it as humble praise. But I must say also, I'm still wondering what got you so interested in her, and how you learned about her in the first place. I don't remember seeing anything about her in our historical records..."

"It wasn't in any of them that I found out about her. There are books in this house that you were not granted access to. It was in one of them."

"I see..."

Silence hangs in the room for several heartbeats.

"I am unsure myself of what it is. I suppose, maybe, I can simply relate to a story... about a person who made a horrible mistake, and no matter what you do... you die, you change yourself, you forget who you were and where you're going and you become someone else, no matter what you do and how much you forget... you cannot run from that time you ruined it all."

The tall woman listens in silence with widened eyes, barely daring to even breathe.

The chronicler once again gazes straight into the eyes of her friend.

"Keine, when I'm reborn... I don't know if you will still be around. And I don't know if that person can ever forgive herself. Maybe, at the very least, she can learn to be happy in spite of her regrets. Maybe she can be truly reborn one day. ... I only know that, when this body dies, I will be gone for a long time. I will return, one day, and I will be fresh and different, and yet I will still be that same old, rotten self. But... if I could return to be greeted by that girl, who was born anew with a genuine smile... I think it would give me hope that, one day, I'll be able to let go of my own burdens."

The two women gaze at one another in silence. Tentatively, the taller one leans down towards the smaller one with her arms outstretched. The smaller one raises her hand.

"I would prefer if you didn't. Right now, I'm your senior. It's more than enough that you listened to me."

The taller woman gets up.

"I understand."

The smaller woman gazes after her for a moment before getting up as well.

"I am proud to have a dependable scholar such as you under me. Consider the previous to be an assignment. I expect nothing but the best results from you."

"Yes, ma'am."

"Likewise, consider the following to be an order from your superior: Forget that this conversation ever took place."

"Ah, my, I'm afraid that won't be possible~"

"Very good. Have a nice day."

The small woman turns on her heel and proceeds to make her way up to the chamber with small, ponderous steps, as she hums a nostalgic tune in her head.
