The makers of the EWI videos agree.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersWell, that was pretty nice. I didn't expect for my question to be asked by little oni girl and then answered. Though given my probably different understanding of Kotohime, I now feel a little bad about how she, uh, apparently went nutters.
So does this mean that in your universe, the "PC 98 games play in the past and Reimu and Marisa are their present counterparts' ancestors" theory holds true?
I have to admit I'm not really keeping track, but if people are starting to write stories that are really interconnected, like, well, like mine about the underground are turning out, I should probably think about a way to link those in a more appropriate fashion in the OP...
By the way, how did it get decided that Konngara's an oni? Just the "horn"?
I have to say that my slight love of the morbid makes me prefer the idea that that is a spear stuck through her head. *wiggles fingers*
Man, we're all such downers when it comes to these things!

I'm inclined to agree. Don't mess with Fudou Myouou, kids.

That's how it started, but her sake dish sealed it. As for the PC-98 cast...
I've got kind of a weird idea for them in my head: they all exist in Gensoukyo, minus Ellen, but the actual events entailed in the games didn't happen. I'm probably gonna get flack for it, but that's my idea.
EDIT: Also, Okami is canon.

I sure said that!Including Yumemi, Chiyuri and Rikako?
They hang out in the Human Village; no one pays them much mind.
I sure said that!So if Phantasmagoria of Dim. Dream didn't happen, how did the former two get to Gensokyo?
Wibbly-wobbly Timey-Wimey Ball -ish stuff. They didn't start their contest, and are gathering intel in a more... stealthy manor. PoDD wasn't very clear on how they got to Gensoukyo, either.

I sure said that!If I recall, Phantasmagoria of Dim. Dream implied that there were "Gensokyo versions" of at least Chiyuri. This means there could be a magic using Gensokyo version of Yumemi somewhere as well. Even if the science using versions never came by, would that mean the magic using native version(s) wouldn't exist?
I would ask how Konngara ended up in hell, but then I noticed two things: 1. in your headcanon, she was never in hell due to Highly Responsive to Prayers not happening, and 2. Former Hell is found in the underground, so maybe there isn't a question at all.
Don't PM me. We don't like being PMed.What about Alice and Yuuka? Especially Yuuka, whom Reimu recognises.
EDIT: the Gensokyo version of Chiyuri is clearly Capt. Murasa.

Heart of StoneMarisa and Reimu are friends. Alice and Marisa are neighbors. Alice met Reimu once when Marisa invited her to Alice's house.
As for Yuuka; even though she keeps to herself most of the time, she's also scary powerful. I like to think that Yuuka almost started an Incident some time between the Scarlet Mist Incident and the Imperishable Night Incident. They recognized each other from that.
I sure said that! It's interesting to note that Touhouwiki has Suika and Yuugi's occupations as "drunkards". Also, Suika, Yuugi and Kasen all have 5 letters and 2 kanji in their first names.
That was more of a joke reason, to be honest. The real purpose was to highlight why I didn't think Yuugi would be the best leader
you'll then have a grave in the clouds where you won't lie too crampedThe best leader for the underground youkai, it's either Yuugi or Satori. Yuugi because she's the strongest, Satori because everyone's scared of her.
Heart of StoneNote to self, do not vote for asterism.
The major governmental structure of the underground is a don't-get-between-an-oni-and-their-drink-ocracy.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI'm agreeing with Bocaj. The Former Capital seems to be under the Pax Oni AKA Don't Make Me Put Down My Drink
you'll then have a grave in the clouds where you won't lie too crampedSeems to be working out pretty well. Or is it?
We've all been emphasizing the good aspects, but oni can get pretty violent if you cross them. I imagine they wouldn't want to disturb the peace completely by just wantonly killing people, but if someone's "had it coming", I can easily see them breaking some bones here or there, or at least delivering a really damn painful beatdown.
And given that we're dealing with a bunch of youkai, it's still debatable whether that is a better way to run the place than the alternative... *shrugs*
As for the emphasis on positive oni behavior; Don't forget that the only two characters that are undeniably oni have been Suika (the worst thing she's ever done is make everyone party for a little too long) and Yuugi (the definitive nice jock); yeah, they fight you, but everyone does that, and they seem pretty cool about it afterwards. Perspective, I guess.
I sure said that!
In the Oni legal system, sentencing guidelines are based on how much worse you're making their hangover.
Well, random fighting and magical schemes are what's made Gensokyo such a charming dystopia.
An oni using their full power would be something to see, from a safe distance anyway, such as the moon. At least you wouldn't have to worry about those pesky mountains anyway.
EDIT: Considering what Suika did to the moon, it's probably not far enough. Perhaps Jupiter.

Heart of StoneHAH!
Forever liveblogging the AvengersMore of a twisted utopia, I'd say.
Does that mean you can bribe the oni courts with aspirin and black coffee?

Heart of StoneSecond Best
"I lied on the ground, beaten and bruised. Shards of my broken sake dish lay off to the side in a small puddle of its previous contents. This had been a reoccuring experience for me. Every time I challanged her veiws, we'd get into a fight. That was just how oni did things.
I never won. Not once have I managed to knock her down for more than a couple seconds before she bounced right back up.
I could've handled that. But as I trained and trained to become the strongest oni, she would just laze about and party, not giving any effort into actively proving she was unbeatable.
No matter how many boulders I crushed, no matter how many gods I beat down, I could never beat that girl! She didn't even care she was stronger! After every fight, she'd have the nerve to say, "That was a good match! Let's fight again sometime!"
It wasn't too long ago that we had our last match. She wanted to go to above ground to see if anything changed since we hid ourselves away. I challanged her, saying that humans don't change. They will forever be theives and liars.
Obviously we fought over it. I lost. Again.
I've barely heard from her since. Ironically enough, I miss her. A lot. She was the only person who I could fight my hardest against without utterly decimating them. She was the only person I could never beat. Hell, she was everything I wanted to be as a fighter. You could even say that we were the best of friends. I wouldn't know, bit that's how some people view those types of relationships, yeah?"
"..."
"Right. Anyways.
I haven't stopped training, though. Next time she comes down here, I'm gonna give her a greeting she'll never forget."
"And by that you mean punching her in the face as hard as you can?"
"Damn straight!"
"You know, you're a pretty insightful person when you're sober. I'm jealous."
"Who says I'm sober?"
"...What? But there's no way that you could be that introspective while you're drunk off your rocker!"
"I'm Yuugi the Strong! Just because I can punch through a mountain with ease, doesn't mean I can't be headstrong as well!"
"But you're drunk!"
"I'm an oni! I'm never not drunk!"
"This is so rediculous."
"Yup! Now come on, let's go into town and get a drink."
"You're not going to take no for an answer, are you."
"Nope! To the tavern!"
"Seriously, don't eat the mermaid. And not just because it's half cannibalism." ~Otherarrow
