Couldn't he like hire a couple of people /close friends to map it out than?

Brainstorm ideas and how to solve it. Get feedback. Split into more novels if needed.

The editing seems to be the major issue versus productivity.

The two people who run the Westeros site were hired by George's publishers to do the WORLD OF ICE AND FIRE book and they asked George for some notes on the Targaryens. Over the weekend, George apparently wrote 40K (which is insane as a writer that is called prolific himself), and sent them basically the entirety of the Targaryen's history.

But yes, this reminds me a bit of LA Confidential's movie adaptation. They had to get a dozen guys to figure out a way to make the plot sensible and cut 90% of the book.

My solution would be to ask the publishers for contracts for like 12 different spinoffs. :)

I can relate to him taking so long. I add a paragraph to my story at best like, every other day. But reality drains me so much I don’t do much.

Being constantly told by your audience that you might keel over any day now and better hurry up with the writing likely doesn't help either.

Tbf he also keeps stringing people along with these false promises. Or the hundred plus other things he's doing at a time. If he was more honest that he was having issues and he wasn't sure when it would come out. I think most of the people irritated would be at least understand.

Honestly, I'm just thoroughly amused that he created a universe with like 4 different magic systems and deadass refuses to ever use any of them to solve problems.

Because magic usually comes at a cost in that setting.

Variety has published an article about how the AT&T executives nixed a film trilogy finale to the show… and tried to get them to film vertically so the show could fit on phones.

Yes. Read it again. Glove and Boots warned us of this.

[up]You got that quickly (even the wiki hasn't updated yet).

I'm excited for this series. I've only read the first 2 short stories, but enjoyed them and think they could work well as Television. They'd also (broadly, obviously important stuff does happen in-between) bridge House of the Dragon to Game of Thrones, which could mean that, when HOTD is finished and if this gets more seasons, you could watch all of them in order and they'd be (broadly) seemless.

Edit: I'm only familiar with Dexter Sol Ansell (as young Snow in the Hunger Games prequel) and I really think he has the look nailed, so great casting in that regard (though, obviously, the actual performance is what will matter). Just looking at a photo, Peter Claffey does seem like a good fit for Duncan as well.
