Very true.

People who are slightly older than me, or who had a terminal Cartoon Network addiction in the '90s (like me), might remember Gatchaman, but other than that, I don't think any of Tatsunoko's characters would be recognized well on this side of the pond.

Thank goodness our local mall import arcade machines. >_<

And well, to be quite honest, Tatsunoko fans aren't really hard to find here. After all, their works are really just separated by license, and at least a good amount of Tatsunoko-owned stuff could at least make people recall them. They'll just give a "Wow, I didn't know that toon was a Tatsunoko property" reaction.

However, that too will be the problem of it getting outside of Japan - the license of various Tatsunoko work outside of Japan are scattered.

Some Capcom of USA made their response, saying that they would try to handle the licensing problems, but they aren't sure if they would succeed.

Isn't so much of a sure thing now, is it?

I've got my Japanese import copy on eBay now and saving up money for a localized copy.

I'm interested in this, even though apart from Super Smash Bros, and an attempt at Darkstalkers when it was free on Game Tap, I haven't been much of a fighting game person... and don't really have people to play the game with in any case. But it looks interesting anyway, and if it has online I won't have trouble finding opponents.

Cool, wasn't sure it would make it over here. Though my friends already imported it so i can already play it.

Maybe people over here would be more receptive if Speed Racer and the Samurai Pizza Cats were characters.

This may also be the most obscure Capcom cast since Capcom Fighting Evolution threw in four characters from Warzard. While I can recognize characters from Rival Schools and Viewtiful Joe... Onimusha? Okami? Lost Planet? Some dating sim?

(I admit that this bias may just be from my lack of Sony systems.)

The lack of phoenix wright in a capcom fighting game saddens me.

Onimusha's not that obscure.

@Noimporta:What PW character would be suitable for a fighting game though? I guess Fransiska could work.

They can get creative... these games are notable for Power Creep, Power Seep, even if it's just an assist character.

Gamespot pre-E3 (prE3?) preview of the game. Includes video interview with Capcom's community manager, as well as a couple gameplay vids of the Western release so far. Of note:

  • At the very least, the character select screen music is going to be remixed - it played on both gameplay vids over what would normally be the character themes.
  • The Gamespot article hints that there will be Tatsunoko characters dropped because of licensing issues. From the Gamespot screenshots and leaked Nintendo Power scans, only Hakushon Daimao hasn't shown up, so it seems he's the odd one out. Capcom will be adding a character to replace him, and adding more characters than that hasn't been ruled out yet.

My love of most things Capcom and all things Tatsunoko, especially Old School Tatsunoko could well override my long-simmering dislike for all things Nintendo. It could even get me to pull the trigger on a Nintendo box. Maybe. Tatsunoko heroes that haven't aired on US TV? Sweet. As mentioned up-topic and in that Gamespot article, they may need to expand the roster for the US release. The rest of the Gatchaman team would be cool, but maybe they're waiting on Tv C 2?

The added character better be Dante.

E3 trailer and press release to go with it.

5 new characters confirmed (none named yet), one lost due to licensing issues (Hakushon Daimao, as per my guess) and online play all confirmed.

Also, Adversary, apparently there was an interview with the series producer for DMC, and he didn't want Dante showing up in this game in more crossovers. DMC4's Nero was considered while the game was in development, though.

EDIT: Found the interview in question, linked to it. H/T to Capcom-Unity's Sano for the find.

Terrible news. If it's the producer that's against it, then that pretty much means Dante is out for all other crossovers. I think.

Now that you mentioned it........Dante has never been in any of Capcom's crossover games has he?

I think he was a card-game-esque thing, and so was Phoenix Wright.

Did anyone watch Teknoman on UPN when you were younger? If you did, you're in luck - the Japanese original, Tekkaman Blade has been announced for Ultimate All-Stars.

The remaining new characters will announced at the Tokyo Game Show in two weeks as well. What's driving me nuts is that there are some folks on Shoryuken's thread that allegedly know who they are. Gah.... sad

ETA: Or perhaps not! A web-scripting screw up on Capcom's part revealed the rest of the roster - Yatterman #2 and Joe the Condor for Tatsunoko, Frank West and Zero (though which specific version is unknown) for Capcom.

Yay! Finally, a Tatsunoko character I recognize!

It would be a lot easier for me if you imagine there's something funny or interesting here.

Tokyo Game Show trailer, which confirms Frank West. Remix of the original game's theme is okay, though I wish it had been just an English translation instead of this hip-hop mix we're getting.

Frank West gameplay footage. Damn, I'm loving those Mega Man equipment-using supers.

Tekkaman Blade gameplay footage. Reminds me of a faster Tekkaman.
