Clara hasn't really been good since series 7 though. Her forced romance with Danny dragged her down last series.

Flatline is basically my favorite episode of Doctor Who.

I wasn't all that fond of Danny at first but I grew to like him. He did end up on a high though.

[up][up][up]I was trying to remember all the season 8 episode names without looking at a list of them last night, could only remember 10 so I went to the recap page. The two I couldn't remember were Time Heist and Flatline, which disappointed me because I loved Flatline :(

I always thought series 7b (outside of the Moffat episodes) where a disaster thanks to a lack of character focus, and that Series 8 is the best season of the Welsh series to date thanks to it's attention to Clara's character. I'm surprised to hear someone preferred Clara in series 7, I'm curious as to why we have such differing opinions?

Two very different treatments of the character will probably not both be appreciated by the same people.

The conflict between the Doctor and Danny should've been limited to only about 1 or 2 episodes.

Also, what the hell was the point of Orson Pink? That guy just doesn't even exist anymore, thanks to Danny dying.

Clara hasn't really been good since series 7 though. Her forced romance with Danny dragged her down last series.

I honestly felt Clara wasn't any good in Series 7. She was bland, 2-dimensional, and uninteresting, and it was only in Series 7 that she turned into a fully fleshed out character. Granted, she still wasn't very likeable, but that was less because she didn't much character to begin with like in Series 7, and more because she was fleshed out into a lying control-freak with issues, which just wasn't there in the previous Series. Most importantly, the show knew she was a lying control freak with issues, just as it knew Twelve was an a-hole, and the pair of them made for some fascinating television. And Clara's romance with Pink is what helped brought her tendencies to lie and be controlling to the fore, so I don't have any problems with that.

I mean, I liked her in Series 7.

All of her Series 8 traits were there, albeit in a prototypical state.

And I find Clara supremely likable.

So do I. It's the same reason I love Amy so much, she's flawed and with issues but also really relatable and fun.

I didn't really have a strong opinion on Clara until Name of the Doctor. Now she's probably my favorite of the new series companions.

She might actually be my favorite period.

She's definitely my favorite Doctor.

I like the way the Doctor asks her to stop being the Doctor and she's like lolno.

I was really fond of her dead pan sarcasm in Bells of St. John, but then didn't find anything to love in her until Nightmare in Silver (Where that same wit returned) Post Deep Breath though she sky rocketed in my books; becoming THE character I identify with most in current media. Perhaps all media.

Those the last three episodes suggest she's no longer the main character of the show. Boooooo.

It's honestly because of her relationship with Danny that I didn't enjoy her portrayal last series and thus liked her better in series 7. I just didn't buy into their romance and the fact that she spent a majority of the season fawning over him just detracted from her character for me. Yes it was nice to see her become more like the Doctor but outside of Flatline and Dark Water I don't feel like those changes to her character showed up enough.

Meanwhile her portrayal in series 7 was a lot more enjoyable to me. Yes there wasn't much substance to it but I don't feel like it took away from her character. I don't know how to explain it but it just clicked really well for me while I feel like season 8 stripped her of that in its attempts to flesh her out.

Her current portrayal seems to be taking bits from both her series 7 and series 8 characterizations though so hopefully I'll be able to enjoy her more this time.

Jenna really should have top billing and her face in the titles.

I'm disappointed by how much of a step back this is.

I liked Clara in series 7, but she didn't have much of a character arc besides being Eleven's friend that he was touchy-feely with, sometimes to an almost inappropriate degree.

Clara get more of a focus in series 8 because she would call out Twelve for acting callous and stuff he pulled like in "Kill the Moon."

And Flatline is my favorite episode of Series 8 because I love Clara.

[up][up] I don't know what season of Doctor Who you watched, but Clara didn't even do any of that. Fawning over Danny? Where? If anything, Danny fawned over her.

I mean, I feel like there was mutual affection and love there, but.

Fawning? Fawning is a very specific set of behavior that Clara. Doesn't really do? At all? Ever?

A thing is not beautiful because it lasts.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.

How did he even exist in the first place? Danny getting killed was a random accident. It's not like the Doctor accidentally meddled around with time and made him die.
