[up] wild mass guessThe crown Tweedle lost to the train was not the Lightning Crown but the Shiny Thing. Krosp will have a crown... if he can get it away from Chewie.wild mass guess

I've been assuming that the crown that Konig has on a chain was meant for Krosp to wear, but it's starting to look like it isn't. I'd also say that Tweedle's crown is devoured and gone, so if it was the Shiny Thing, everyone's got a problem.

I'm wondering if Shiny Thing is shiny as in gold, silver, gems, etc., or shiny because Sparky goodness. Or both.

[up][up]Tweedle said he has the shiny thing, so it probably wasn't his crown. And the bears already switched allegiance purely on the ground of Krosp's odor. I don't see problems in that direction.

All I know is, my gut says maybe.

[up] Probably not, I just think it would be funny. And, yes, from the sound of it the only effect failing to hand the Shiny Thing over would have on the bears would be to really annoy them.

Dr Dim made the briefest of appearances 12 years back. I suppose there are clues to the "Shiny Thing" buried somewhere in the back pages of CG, but I have no idea where to look.

It seems only fitting to award Vapnoodle a posthumous CMOA. König and his bears. Krosp, his master work. Martellus, the Sorcerer's Apprentice. Under excruciating torture, not a word, not a whisper, of any of these things was passed on to Klaus.

Does the Baron torture for information? The brain coring's awful, certainly, but the vibe I got was that the suffering from that was an undesired side effect that he'd do away entirely if he could. (He's working hard on the "quality of life" thing.)

I dunno if it's a crown or something, though. When people in Girl Genius use names like "shiny thing", isn't that usually simplifying a name, presumably so someone like a Jaeger can understand/say it? Like the "Zappy stick". A crown isn't that difficult a thing to understand...

Blood red pages and Othar's warning to Theo "Don't be too clever lad or you'll be next!'" scream torture.

Once you plant the idea that the Klaus' promises of protection are ultimately fraudulent, the system he created collapses. [Did anything go right for Klaus after Agatha's abduction?]

Klaus made the same mistake in implanting a copy of himself in Gil. The puppet-people Lucrezia created are the ultimate in crime and horror in the CG Universe —- and that is saying something.

Doing torturous things =/= torturing for information.

I don't think providing sensitive information while being brain cored is something most people would do, because there's no incentive to. There's no indication that it would make the torture stop, just gratify the torturer while he goes about destroying bits of your brain.

I can see someone being tortured for non-information-related reasons offering information to just make it stop. Whether they'll be taken up on it is another matter.

A footnote on Merlot from Voice of the Castle ends with "So, in answer to Merlot’s rhetorical question, no—it was not particularly fair, but the Baron did not permit torture."

This is slightly questionable in light of the braincoring, but probably means he doesn't permit torture for information. Extremely painful experiments are entirely different. Spark logic 9.9

But of course! One can hardly refine the process to be less painful without experimental data to work from, so if you think about it the experiments are the very opposite of torture!

[up][up]Fair. Still not the same as resisting a deliberate attempt to break him, though.

This should stand up as one of the funniest - and most satisfying - episodes in Girl Genius.

What a pleasure it is to see Violetta getting the respect she deserves. Martellus pole-axed at every turn.

"An henemy like this dis guy iz a ting of beauty!" http://www.girlgeniusonline.com/comic.php?date=20140711

"Apparently so."

In two words Krosp summing up a revelation that - in our timeline - has been eleven years in the making.

"Sometimes I think I was supposed to be killed because I was too embarrassing to live." http://www.girlgeniusonline.com/comic.php?date=20040315, http://www.girlgeniusonline.com/comic.php?date=20040317

At least Tweedle's being reasonably quick on the uptake, for better or worse.

(It's so annoying to see a normally smart bad guy become plot induced stupid.)

Krosp is really, really enjoying this.

Klaus is at the core a pragmatist. I can see him use torture if all other means are exhausted, or at least allow Bang to do the torturing in this case. And he is by no means without vices. One of it is risking unnecessary cruelty to his subjects, because he enjoys the challenge of employing Bang without her murdering everyone who crosses her.

I don't think he ever tortured Dr. Dim though, and while brain coring to try to cure the spark seems cruel to us, it isn't that long since lots of respected psychiatrists considered lobotomy a viable cure for depression, which in my opinion puts it into perspectve.

I am still at loss about what Violetta can do in time. Get down the shaft with her grappling hook, maybe. But what is she supposed to do there?

All I know is, my gut says maybe.
