I wonder what lie the Monks told the Chew that makes it distrust them so.

What do you want to bet it was "The Heterodyne is waiting for you in the basement."

I'm a little surprised no one (myself included) thought about the hand.

I suppose I can understand him overlooking it, though, for the same reason the chef overlooked the ovens as a source of metal: they've worked with it for so long that they don't even think about it, not unlike how most humans don't feel that they're wearing clothes until they think about it (or it's pointed out to them they're not).

What interests me is the possibility that Chew Chew will glom the hand and recognize it as Heterodyne tech. That should really set it off—searching for Lost Master (or Mistress, as the case may be).

[up][up] That would sorta create a plothole; he lost the original Agatha-built hand while fighting with Gil. Unless it's capable of regenerating itself from a stump, which admittedly is not outside the realm of possibility.

[up]I'm unsure how much would have been lost. The guy had been staring at it long enough to work out some of what Agatha did. Odds are he copied most of it.

Considering it's a hand, and two hands are kinda essential to a lot of things (as many a cat owner knows), he'd be a fool not to have a backup or three available. The question would be how much was copied vs how much made from scratch by techs/Sparks not wanting to mess with Heterodyne tech.

Ooops, ferromagnetic. That's what I meant. (That's just embarrassing.)

As for the (bad) joke, in The Star Beast, the titular alien eats anything not alive and moving, including metal. Apparently the darn thing once ate its human family's Buick. And the Chew Chew looks vaguely like a star to me. tongue

Didn't the Beast say earlier (first time we got the "lying monks" accusation) that they promised it coal?

The speech patterns also change noticeably. When Tweedle said nerve-enhancing, just which nerves was he going for?

Depending on the fields Chew Chew Star is emitting, anything electrical is likely to get screwed up as well. I'm going for shapeshifting -and wondering how they deal with the issue of how much energy that would take.

The speech patterns might be because of the necessary shift from human to quasi-animal brain in order to properly use the Sparkhound/wolfman form.

I just love Tweedle's expression and comment in the third panel. [lol] (And really, even Agatha has her moments, even though she's fundamentally nice.)

It struck me that Tweedle must be a desperately lonely man.

His sister negotiating a coldly calculated marital alliance with Gil. The Lady M firmly convinced that Tarvek dead is better than Martellus alive.

And now this.

His second-in-command exposed as a Sparkhound Wolf-Were. Wolf first. Human second. Where does it end, I wonder.

Is it possible that the Sparkhounds are to him what the Jager are to Agatha? Whose love and trust are freely given.

[up]The Sparkhounds are indeed about the only ones he can truly trust. His family is a nest of vipers, the Council inflicts him with useless advisers, the Fifty Families are only on board as long as he boosts their power. If he were to catch Agatha (which simply isn't going to happen) you have to wonder what horrible method he would use to ensure her cooperation.

[down]But that didn't work. So presumably he would do something even more drastic.
