[nja]I wonder if the Lady Margo has a map of the teleport system.

It would be very interesting to know how old this thing is and its true range and reach.

@khil: If you looked at the video I linked, that's a Reuben's tube. Basically, it uses sound to affect flame patterns. The Mythbusters had fun with that a few years ago.

But it's a tube, with fire, and sciencey stuff. And Sparks bend reality.

If Krosp tells him he was swearing fealty to the Heterodyne (or the King of Cats), do you think he'd remember otherwise before it was too late?

Probably. The last thing he did was besting the brass-count. It could seem reasonable to walk away after defeating an opponent, but I doubt he remembers anything that could cause him to swear fealty to Krosp or that Krosp is a possible liege lord at all.

[up]I guess one could try building a grid of tubes filled with gas and sparking pressure valves instead of holes, and then use soundwave-superposition from several speakers to build localized pressure. Heterodynes may just be silly enough to do this just for fun and the name.

I hope the good count isn't prophetic though. Krosp turning on Agatha would be bad, but then the Cinderella story made it clear that he is easily bought with a dead mouse and a houseplant, so .....

[up][up] Oh my. I can imagine Sparks would have fun with that. Actually...given that Heterodyne abilities are based around cancelling soundwaves, I can imagine a reubens tube based trap you have to heterodyne at to stop it setting you on fire.

Yeah, I suspect Krosp's suggestion has the greater chance of success.

Reading the page again, I'm struck by the demand, "Bring out the Lady Margolotta and all her belongings" (emphasis added).

Perhaps her treachery takes a physical form...? Ran off with the royal keys or something...?

We've been thinking that the Lightning Crown was a metaphor; perhaps it's a real thing and necessary for the crowning?

Oh, khil! I forgot about La Clef du Roi. Hmm...

Lightningnettle — I thought Tarvek mentioned a lightning throne... I could be remembering wrong.

Martellus did have a lightning crown, which popped off him here. I suppose it could have fallen into Lady Selnikov's hands somehow.

The Lightning Throne and Lightning Crown have both been mentioned in association with the Storm King. I can't call to mind the Lightning Crown in the comic — as a mention, as opposed to a circlet with a lightning emblem on it — although I like Khilari's theory that Rerich was admiring it when he commented on wanting to take Valois's hat. :) But it is mentioned in the epigraph to Ch. 8 of the second novelization, which depicts the Fifty Families as all angling to claim it, if necessary at the price of "turn[ing] Europa upside down".

[up][up] I'm kind of hoping la Clef du Roi will show up, if only because it seems to be Muse associated and I'd really like to see more of them. Or even refind the ones we've got. Tinka appears to be Tarvek's most ardent supporter. Did anyone put her head back on? If they did has she managed to fall in with Tarvek's loyalists? Where is Moxana?

And, more of the subject of la Clef du Roi, does it come with a book or are those Van Rijn's notes it's being displayed with? What function would it be likely to have when the Muses evidently don't require it, and no one has mentioned it as a perquisite for their loyalty?

Re: neuralistic singularity...

There's the technological singularity, which is supposed to be a moment in time, and then there's gravitational / spacetime singularities, which are places...

It's possible the key has something to do with the portals — as places where spacetime goes wonky — but the context suggests something to do with artificial consciousness. Perhaps it acts as a "breath of life" of sorts, which would explain why no one's ever been able to reproduce a Muse.

ETA: I suppose it's possible to be drawing on both senses of "singularity" — something about transmitting not just matter, but life...?
