And The close up fist fight is fine, and while the artist does make the lines on naruto shirt look rough, its technically more complex and harder to animate then just making it completely grey.

The lack of music really sells the beginning fight there.

Sasuke pulling Uchiha shenanigans by using Naruto's fingers against himself in order to create jutsu was hilarious.

Sasuke really is the more skilled ninja. He had Naruto down pretty good at the beginning of the fight using an excellent combo of taijutsu, ninjutsu & weaponry. I though it was kinda lame though that Naruto couldn't use no other jutsu then shadow clones & then getting interrupted every time he tried to use it till he was launched away to a safer distance.

True, Sasuke is overall, the better technical ninja. Naruto's more of a brute force guy, which is why he doesn't have a lot of defenses against pure hax.

However, Naruto shows surprising amounts of combat awareness in fights. He's actually able to pick up on small details and use them to his advantage in many of his fights, so he deserves some recognition for that.

Sasuke isn't that much more skilled Naruto imo and Naruto is very noticeably pulling his punches and not trying very hard.

Gorgeous?

It's nice and that's it. There isn't a super complex choreography. The animation isn't stunningly fluid or quick, it's very light on detail for the most part and while it fits, it doesn't change the fact that it's a very slow sequence.

It's not a massive feat of animation. It's just a nicely animated scene with a fairly noticeable flaw.

The digital zoom portion is awkward, the real good part is the punch that mirrors the Valley of the End scene where Naruto scratches Sasuke's headband while Sasuke punches a hole in Naruto's chest (because remember: Sasuke tried to kill Naruto back then and then didn't when he had the chance for... some reason).

Furthermore, just because it's 'more complex' or 'harder' doesn't make it better. Just because it took more time and effort to do doesn't mean that the effect on Naruto's mesh doesn't clash with the much more simplistic environment around it, and even the rest of Naruto himself.

It's because the rest of the scene looks good that makes the glaring mistake stand out all the more. Like I said, it's not zomgorgeous, but it's a good fit for the aesthetic of the manga itself.

Honestly, it really baffles me just how little Japan cares about the animation of its biggest franchises. Dragon Ball Super and Naruto both suffered from downright Terribad animation at times, and even at their best they're not exactly stellar. I mean, I know that Toei is the animation devil that puts only the absolute minimum amount of money into hiring animators, especially for franchises they know will sell regardless of how ass the animation is, but I thought Naruto escaped that shit.

Objectively, if you knew how animation actually works, it is.

It's pretty close to Studio Ghibli in terms to fluidity.

Naruto's speech about Sasuke basically being a brother to him really took the wind out of his sails, he passed up the chance to kill Naruto twice after that speech, first when he went for a punch to the gut rather than a stab to the throat during the final clash, and then afterwards when Naruto was helpless.

I do agree with IANCE that it ISNT ZOMG BEST ANIMATION EVA. But it is pretty nice and kind of awesome. I WILL ask IANCE what does he consider gorgeous beyond compare. Because its a bit unfair that an anime that is for TV and not you know, feature animation is judged by such impossibly high standards.

The last brother Sasuke had didn't turn out so well. One would think that such talk would just get Naruto killed even deader.

The problem is, if you're gonna describe it as "this is so gorgeous!", then I am going to put it next to actually gorgeous animation and judge it unfavorably.

I did say that it's good animation. It's just not "super high tier gorgeous animation" though, it's just good animation.

Furthermore, it's one of the final sequences for what is currently the biggest name in ongoing anime worldwide. I expect them to go all out and do their absolute best.

And they did. This is good, I dont know where you can find animation that good on that tight a schedule. Because its not budget but schedule that determines the quality of animation.

At least around the time they were asking and surveying Japanese fans on what they wanted out of it.

It included longer Taijutsu fights and revisiting of older Jutsus from the series, and the best TV animation that they can do.

They pretty much fullfilled those, without needing to go full on unlimited digital works like Ufotable is known for.

The choice to forgo Ufotable style CG stuff is probably for the best.

Like I said, the fight really does look like it could actually fit with the manga's artstyle.

It also reminds me that the manga begs to be in color, since the random jumbles of ink lines are actually coherent when there's color to make them stand out from everything else.
