** In the Japanese dub, he and Charlotte talk about the incident. As Charlotte retells the story, what happened was that the townspeople tried to attack them out of fear, then Meier Link lost control and killed them all in retaliation. Charlotte excuses him, but assumes the sin for herself, claiming the only reason he was even put in that position in the first place was because of their love.

* VanillaProtagonist: D's only traits are being a black-clad vampire bishonen, an impossibly good swordsman and the host to an extravagant parasite. In comparison with many other characters, he comes across as rather unoriginal. However, while it is unknown if Kikuchi made it so in the first place or realized it along the road, it's clear that he actually exploted this to focus on side characters and world building in late entries of the franchise.
