* OneSceneWonder: Rick Malverne, with his careful plotting and ability to shield himself from J'onn's power, is one of the show's best villains.
* WhatAnIdiot: Lena, with regards to Rhea. Despite knowing that Rhea is totally willing to lie, and despite knowing nothing about Rhea other than what Rhea claims to be true, she decides to trust her. What's more, she apparently thinks it's suspicious enough to warrant asking Kara's advice, but gives up when Kara is obviously distraught and can't be bothered to hold off on her decision overnight.

* MagnificentBastard:[[VillainOfTheWeek Rick Malverne]] is a former classmate of the Danvers sisters who bored witness to Kara surviving a horrific accident and using her powers to save people. Remembering this, Rick pieces together her past identity once Kara publicly reveals herself as "Supergirl" to National City. Taking the opportunity to free his criminal father from prison, Rick kidnaps Alex and places her in a glass cage, located in a building laced with lead to deter Kara, while slowly filling it with water. Giving Kara and her friends 36 hours to either free his father or watch Alex drown. After being apprehended, Rick remains calm and sees through J'onn's attempt to shape-shift into his father, failing to trick Rick. Even when his plan is foiled when his father reveals the location of his trap, Rick graciously congratulates Alex for surviving his trap and accepts his imprisonment without malice.

** So apparently, LoveConquersAll whenever Kara or the rest of her team, whenever they're not smart enough to figure it out. But seriously, the idea that Rick's father cares so much that he'd rather let give up his freedom for his son before Kara gives him up for Alex? He should realize that if she does what his son wants, then Rick won't have to live with guilt anyway AND they will both be free. And that's not even factoring the fact that he somehow conveniently knows where Alex might be.

*** It's enough to make Lena suspicious. When she goes over the data and notices the extraterrestrial element, ''that's'' the smoking gun.
