YMMV / Ren & Stimpy 1x01 "Stimpy's Big Day"/"The Big Shot"

Go To

  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: From "The Big Shot":
    • An envious and lonely Ren cracks and yells at a pillow that he shaped into a crude model of Stimpy. After he's finished, the pillow then speaks to the audience in an echoing voice, "He's talking to pillows, kids". This is never brought up again.
    • When we first see the "Hollywood" sign after Stimpy becomes famous, an animated image of Kirk Douglas pops up for a few moments, then descends back down. While it makes perfect sense if you're aware of John Kricfalusi's fondness of the actor and his work, at the time your average young fan was most likely asking "Huh?"
  • Esoteric Happy Ending: Ren and Stimpy's tearful reunion in "The Big Shot" is cut short by Ren slapping Stimpy repeatedly for giving away his 47 million dollar fortune.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • The Yogi Bear parody is a lot funnier knowing that John K. would later make the shorts Boo Boo Runs Wild and A Day in the Life of Ranger Smith.
    • In "The Big Shot!", one of Stimpy's lines in the Muddy Mudskipper cartoon, "I'm huntin' for a wabbit!" and "Blow me down!" Billy West would become the primary voice actor for Elmer Fudd starting with Space Jam. He also voiced Popeye in the 2004 TV special, Popeye's Voyage: The Quest for Pappy. He also imitates Yogi Bear - while not a role that he's done super-often, Billy also provided the voice of Yogi for a Cartoon Network bumper (specifically, the one where he doesn't have his ID).
