* IdiotPlot:
** The whole conflict would have been resolved if Sky Beak and Ocean Flow just told Terramar there was no pressure in choosing and that he could live on both land and sea at the beginning, or if Terramar had told them he thought he was supposed to choose. Of course, considering that Terramar is a child, and [[TruthInTelevision children often have trouble discussing their emotions with their parents]] (especially when it essentially boils down to which parent he’d rather stay with), it's justified.
** This episode also has a similar problem to [[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS7E15TripleThreat "Triple Threat"]] where the map sends the characters to fix a friendship problem that they turn ''into'' a problem (or rather worsen the issue instead of trying to be useful) by their own hand. Terramar, for all his indecisiveness, at least felt at home in both places but then Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle's constant bickering ends up making Terramar uncomfortable in ''both'' worlds and he resigns himself to live in a tree. If anything the friendship problem that ends up being fixed was Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle's (which, again, only exists because they were sent to fix a friendship problem) because they realize how they let their opinions interfere with their friendship and Terramar's problem kind of resolves itself without the Cutie Mark Crusaders actually doing anything crucial (though they still get credit for it like Spike did for his part in Thorax and Ember's personal resolution).

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter: While justifiable since it would’ve been too expensive to get ''[=Uzo Aduba=]'' back, there were many who were disappointed that Queen Novo doesn’t make even a cameo in the episode. Also doubles as TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot too, as many wished that there was at least a moment where Twilight and Novo make amends after Twilight [[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyTheMovie2017 tried stealing the pearl of transformation]]. (Indeed, none of the hippogriffs are seen treating Twilight with anything but admiration, despite her actions in ''The Movie''; presumably the defeat of the Storm King vindicated her in their eyes.) One other reason is that we don’t get to see how Novo’s relationship with Ocean Flow is since they are both sisters.

While the idea of separation by your choice is a very real and serious decision to pile on a child, the downplaying of the situation in this context (being able to visit either places within walking distance whenever you like, both parents still seeing each other despite living in separate places and the freedom of choice to change back on a whim) resulted in the lack of any permanent negative consequences, making him look like a whiner instead.
