Whether Stygian tried to explain himself or the Pillars didn't LET him is ambiguous from the flashback, and him turning into a monster HAD NOT HAPPENED yet, so it means nothing to whether they should've cast him out then. This doesn't make sense as a Strawman Has a Point if the subject that they are supposed to be right about uses evidence that literally hadn't happened yet, and was BECAUSE of the decision they made.

* StrawmanHasAPoint: The Pillars, especially Star Swirl, were supposed to be wrong for assuming Stygian meant to steal their artifacts and kick him out. But as Stygian [[NotHelpingYourCase was using them for an ominous magical ritual, never explained his true intentions before or afterwards]], and transformed into a literal monster seeking TheEndOfTheWorldAsWeKnowIt, there was plenty reason for them to assume the worst.

Trope is arguing with itself, with the latter half looking more like it's criticizing the first half.

* {{Applicability}}: Some interpret the episode as a TakeThatCritics to those critical of all the show's [[HeelFaceTurn redemptions]], with Star Swirl's "once a villain, always a villain" mindset proved horribly wrong and [[NiceJobBreakingItHero causing all the episode's conflict]]. This is despite the show seemingly agreeing the redemption became excessive given it dialed them back the prior season and not making the clear attempt to potray Star Swirl as an allegory for critics [[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS7E14FameAndMisfortune like when they did attack them]]. Also fans' objections were due to the redemption being [[EasilyForgiven too quick]], [[UnintentionallyUnsympathetic underserved]], or lost what made the antagonists well received which is different than Star Swirl's objection that [[BeyondRedemption this villain seemed too far gone to redeem]] and had no objections to the successfully redeemed characters even before his JerkassRealization.

Renamed one trope.

* QuestionableCasting: Some feel that Murry Peeters's performance as Somnambula is too deep-voiced and serious in contrast to the character's {{Moe}} appearance and HopeBringer personality.

ATT. They're disliked for being underutilized as opposed to thinking the world would be better off without them.

* TheScrappy: The Pony of Shadows is largely seen as the weakest part of this finale. While his AntiClimaxBoss and TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter statuses are disappointing enough for many fans, it doesn't help that some also see him as a lazy SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute for Nightmare Moon's shtick from all the way back in the Season 1 premiere.

Now Trivia requiring official confirmation it was made in response to complaints.

* AuthorsSavingThrow:
** The fact that ''mostly everypony'' involved (Mane Six, Starlight, Sunburst, and the Pillars) ends up contributing to saving the day seems to alleviate the complaints of Twilight and Starlight each becoming a one-mare SpotlightStealingSquad in their appearances. While Spike doesn't help to defeat the Pony of Shadows in the final battle, he did help in the last episode in retrieving Flash Magnus' shield, so even he got to contribute in his own way.
** The Sirens' cameo effectively makes "Fiendship is Magic #3" non-canon, which isn't minded since it was considered a weaker issue.
** Starlight previously focused on running Our Town and what she did there when discussing her evil past, but given that, that evil act had certain touches of WellIntentionedExtremist, has been [[OverlyLongGag mentioned until exhaustion]] and committed a [[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS5E25TheCutieRemarkPart1 revenge act that is]] [[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS5E26TheCutieRemarkPart2 worse than the previous one]], some fans were [[AngstDissonance growing tired of this being treated]] as "[[FelonyMisdemeanor completely and utterly evil]]," and saw it as [[{{Wangst}} something Starlight really should have gotten over by now]]. In this two-parter, the primary focus is on her RoaringRampageOfRevenge and the damage she caused in the name of petty vengeance, including nearly destroying all of space-time, which is a much more reasonable thing to consider as evil.
