** August March is only in two episodes, but is a popular RoguesGallery member for his manipulative tricks and how his actor is reprising a role from the original series.
** Serial arsonist Jason Duclair only appears four times, but greatly intrigues many fans through a combination of his terrifying pyromania and occasional NobleDemon moments.
** Retired [=FBI=] profiler Alicia Brown is only in six episodes but is one of Steve's more popular love interests.
** OneShotCharacter mob hitman Nick Mercer has a surprisingly big following due to [[spoiler:his FanficFuel rich BackStory as TheAtoner who has been faking the deaths of his recent targets and setting them up in new lives with his own UndergroundRailroad.]]
** It's only in Season 7 that Duke gets a PromotionToOpeningTitles, but his role as a MauveShirt CoolOldGuy who is played by a star of the original show makes him extremely popular.

* DiagnosedByTheAudience: Max is introduced by the governor with the line "They say he's a savant" and had to fire his piano tuner because he liked to chat and Max found it "emotionally draining". In his off time he investigates cold cases and makes pickles, but doesn't trust phones or watch the news because it's scary. This suggests that he might be on the spectrum.

Two ''fighter jet'' transitions later implying he used his connections to get a fast ticket over, and Steve walks right up to the group at nighttime to immediately force his way into the op in a way that is so sudden it comes off as surreal rather than serious.

* NightmareFuel: [[AntiHero Steve]] has a lot of leeway with his Five-O team to get the job done, and this includes allowing for his CowboyCop antics to an extent. Despite three separate governors attempting to reign him in, their own immunity clauses for him typically mean he can get away with antics like ''using a live grenade to blow open a sealed store door'', before he even has an official warrant to act on. It's not the legality of his actions, [[TheMcCoy Danny will always dispute that]], it's the sheer, unstoppable warpath Steve will make the moment he knows what he's gunning for, and the amount of bodies likely to be left in his wake if it comes to a fight.

Requires Word Of God confirmation

* AuthorsSavingThrow: The pilot used a [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLKdYXyQa90 "modernized" theme song]] heavy on the electric guitars and synth drums; after it was sent it out to critics, it met with such overwhelmingly negative response (unsurprisingly, given that the original theme is considered [[SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic one of the greatest in TV history]]) that the producers actually [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lUt558jdHqk re-recorded the theme]] using the traditional orchestration (including three musicians who participated in the original 1968 recording). Even though it was still cut to thirty seconds (commercial time is ''far'' too valuable to allow for a minute-long theme song nowadays), the gesture was still greatly appreciated by classic fans and pop culture historians. (And the lesson was learned; years later, when the same production team remade ''Series/MagnumPI'', the original theme was featured with the only major change being its length.)

Critical Research Failure is a disambiguation page

* CriticalResearchFailure:
** A few things in "Ua Hopu".
*** For instance, Interpol having a worldwide tactical team in Osaka, Japan. Which doesn't work since Interpol is a collection of police agencies working together by sharing intelligence. Although Interpol does have a tactical team responsible for protecting Interpol facilities in France.
*** Same thing with the uniforms of Japanese police officers. Although the basics are correct (e.g. vest, cap, shirt), the shoulder patches and the kanji for the vests are incorrect. In the episode, the kanji is portrayed as "特別警察官", which means "Special police officer" in Japanese. Although it's correct, all Japanese police officers have vests with the kanji "警察庁;", which means "National Police Agency". And don't get started on the Osaka Police crime scene investigators.
** In "A ia la aku" (for the first episode filmed in Hong Kong), the sedan Kono and Adam rode in has mainland Chinese plates, when it's stipulated by Hong Kong laws that mainland-based vehicles should have Hong Kong plates affixed at the front and back in order to be admitted into Hong Kong territory. Also in "Kupuʻeu", the sedan Kono and Adam use is [=LHD=], despite having the correct Hong Kong license plates on.
** All of 3.20. While Catherine has apparently been in combat situations previously, as noted during that episode and in Season 4 (she's done three tours in Kabul), and being part of MissionControl probably wasn't her first or only role with the Navy, there is still no chance an Naval Intel Officer (Catherine) has the kind of training to keep up with a SEAL (Steve).
** The gun shop in "Hookman" is packed to the gills with [=SMGs=] and select-fire rifles that are banned in the state of Hawaii.
** In "Hana Komo Pae", it's mentioned that the Philippines has the death penalty, which is incorrect. [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capital_punishment_in_the_Philippines It's not been used after 2006]], but it could change since Duterte wants the death penalty be brought back as part of his campaign platform after he got elected in the 2016 elections.

* WhatAnIdiot:
** The Yakuza boss forgets to clear his fingerprints off the stolen Champ box and throws it in the dumpster outside his own bar -- leaving just enough clues tying him to the kidnapping that Five-0 can arrest him.
** Marco Reyes has Danny and Steve dead to rights after he just [[spoiler:gave Danny his brother back as a corpse in a barrel, causing him to have a very brief FreakOut]], and was just told by Danny to kill him now or [[ItsPersonal face his vengeance soon enough]]. Marco, trying to be some sort of reasonable man yet clearly arrogant and ignorant to just what these two are capable of, tells him to cool down, go home and never return to Colombia least something happens to Danny's daughter, unknowingly pressing the latter's BerserkButton even further as he lets them go. [[spoiler:Not even a minute later and the duo kill all of Reyes' guards off-screen and Danny comes back down to terrify him before [[BoomHeadshot blowing his brains out]] in probably the fastest dosage of LaserGuidedKarma for a multi-episode antagonist all series long.]]
** The perp in "Kupale" gets caught by the wife of his victim at gunpoint, and she's about to kill him any second even as the Five-O roll in to try to arrest him and stop her from committing murder. Despite pleading she's insane and that he's innocent, he's smart enough to realize he was in deep trouble -- and dumb enough to take her hostage with her own gun when she gets distracted. [[TooDumbToLive With his body totally exposed while he's surrounded.]] Steve just shakes his head in disbelief before plugging the man in the shoulder, resolving the situation altogether.

** If the episode decides it's time for a dramatic fistfight, all the usual combat rules fly out the window, both combatants become implausibly MadeOfIron as the two beat the utter hell out of eachother and throw eachother onto just about every destructible object in the room if not multiple rooms, and allies that were potentially right behind the hero inexplicably disappear to let the fight rage on unabated. For most series, this would be RuleOfCool and RuleOfDrama alike for a climactic final battle. For ''Hawaii Five-0'', this is basically every serious bad guy that isn't meant to be shot or a pushover.
