* AwesomeMusic: Music/MaximumTheHormone's "F", a death metal love letter to the emperor of the universe.
* BadassDecay / VillainDecay: Inverted to an insane degree in Frieza's case. The trailer alone shows that Frieza's leapt to the top of the foodchain again, taking on Goku at his peak.
** Also inverted by the non-Saiyan Z-warriors to a lesser extent. Piccolo, Tien, Krillin and Roshi are all shown jumping into battle against Frieza's footsoldiers.
** Gohan's only action in the trailer was getting his ass kicked.
* BaseBreaker: Frieza being cast as the main villain. Many are quite fond of him and glad to see a return to form after his VillainDecay, others feel it's lazy that a new villain isn't being created for the movie, and others don't care either way.
** Similarly, Frieza's new form. A lot of the controversy is similar to the previous movie's Super Saiyan God, where some find it interesting, since it continues the concept of a character's ultimate form being deceptive in appearance (aside from Super Saiyan God, there's Gohan's ultimate form, Frieza's fourth form, Kid Buu, Beerus, and Whis, among others), while others feel that the new design is lazy, and would have preferred something that looks more impressive.
** Gohan's BadassDecay. Nevermind Frieza's transformation, Gohan so far has done nothing but disappoint fan expectations. Also, the green tracksuit with hairstyle redesign has received negative comments. He's not far from becoming the Yamcha now.
* CrowningMomentOfFunny: These commercials for Japanese soft drinks. Just try to not laugh as Goku and Frieza busts a move!
** Frieza's hell that he had to suffer, which pretty much has him sealed in a tree in a TastesLikeDiabetes land full of angels and faeries and forced to live his worst memories.
** When Frieza's men summon Shenron to revive Frieza, Shenron makes it clear that only his soul would be revived and that Frieza would still be left as chunks when Future Trunks killed him. How do Frieza's scientists get around this problem? By just simply throwing these chunks into a rejuvenation tank.
* FridgeHorror: Yes, even before the movie has premiered! Dende's Shenron can grant 2 wishes. As revealed by the trailers, one will be used to revive Frieza but what about the second? Well it's hard to see Frieza giving up the chance to wish for the immortality he was introduced seeking in the first place.
** This appears to not be the case, as the prequel manga shows. Shenron revives Freeza (albeit in meaty chunks), but no second wish is made beyond that. Either the creators forgot this Shenron can grant 2 wishes, or the villains didn't know and Shenron never bothered to tell them.
** The fact that Frieza gets revived by a wish means that the Earth Dragonballs don't have the 1 year time limit like before. Who knows who else can come back now...
*** The one year limit seems to be on whether Shenron can revive their bodies rather than their souls. Not like that matters for creatures like Cell and Buu though. Hurry up being reincarnated Uub!
* HilariousInHindsight: In the 2009 special "Yo! Son Goku and his Friends Return", Goku remarks "You know, looking back, Frieza wasn't that tough of an opponent..." BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor, Son.
** This also isn't the first Dragon Ball movie that depicts a revived Frieza.
** "This isn't even my final form!" jokes are now relevant, now that Frieza has a new final form.
* GermansLoveDavidHasselhoff: Taken to an insane degree with the release dates for the movie in Latin American countries. The movie was getting released in Mexico, Peru, Argentina and Chile before getting released in Japan. And on top of that not a subtitled version, dubbed. At least until Fox moved the scheduled date to October to avoid direct competition with other blockbusters TheFastAndTheFurious and TheAvengersAgeOfUltron...
* MemeticMutation: "Frieza decided to train for the first time in his life" from Jump Festa 2015 has already gotten rather popular in certain parts of the fandom with how insanely powerful he got in this movie, especially with much VillainDecay he suffered once his time as the main villain was up in Z.
* Narm: From the original trailer, we have Goku screaming Frieza's name... in Masako Nozawa's voice. Her voice is already considered to be Narmful to Western fans in the first place, so screaming doesn't exactly help.
** One of the songs that plays during the second trailer is a hilariously out of place J-Pop song, over the images of the Z-Warriors being defeated. What makes it feel even more out of place is that the first half of the trailer has the much more intense and fitting 'F' by Maximum the Hormone playing, making for even more MoodWhiplash.
* NightmareFuel: The climax of the third trailer which includes such pleasent images as Gohan seemingly looking dead, Goku being strangled under Frieza's foot. And ends with an image of what looks like Earth blowing up with Goku screaming in the background.
** Frieza finally subverts VillainForgotToLevelGrind... and in just 4 months, he now ranks with Buu and Beerus. Overlaps with FridgeHorror if you wonder how the Namek Saga would've gone had he applied himself sooner.
* NoExportForYou: AVERTED. Funimation now has obtained the rights for the film.
* WinBackTheCrowd: Seems to be the goal with this movie. After Battle of Gods proved to be divisive among the fanbase for its lighthearted tone and comedic elements, it seems this one is driving the action and seriousness to the front.

** Gohan's only action in the in the trailer was getting his ass kicked. This seem to be this trope played straight on the other hand.
