* OvershadowedByControversy: In 2018 when a list of how female characters were described in their screenplays went online, the description of Jungle Julia referred to her as "an Amazonian mulatto goddess" - which will often get brought up if the film is mentioned.

* WhatMeasureIsANonBadass: Consider the two groups of women Stuntman Mike meets: the first group do nothing particularly wrong and they get killed. The second group act like idiotic irresponsible jackasses and we love them because they are supremely badass. Even within that second group of girls, Lee is the only one who isn't a badass. They're more than willing to leave her behind.

* TestosteroneBrigade: A plethora of gorgeous actresses, many of whom dress in hot pants and have beautiful long hair (Jungle Julia in particular has lots of shots highlighting her hair, legs and ass) has given some the impression that this is a two-hour JiggleShow.

** The first half of the film has three girls wandering around Texas in short shorts and tight t-shirts. This is so ingrained in pop culture, people who haven't seen the film assume it's a two hour JiggleShow.

* SugarWiki/FunnyMoments:
** Arlene is bored at having to go along with Jungle Julia's roleplay, so she sidetracks Marcie by going on about how fat Julia's ass is. The woman interrupts them.

** Shanna refers to Jungle Julia as a "six foot tall baby giraffe", after mentioning that she flirts shamelessly with her father.
** Nate's poor choice of words when offering to walk Arlene to the car with his umbrella.

** The second set of girls collapsing laughing about how Cecil slept with another woman on Abernathy's birthday. It gets even better when Abernathy says he made her a mixed tape as a present. All the girls {{Squee}} at this romantic gesture, while Abbie gets even more irritated.
** The cashier in the supermarket sneakily says he has more {{Fashion Magazine}}s behind the counter - as if he's selling illegal drugs. Abernathy is weirded out and starts to leave...only to stop dead when he announces he has this month's issue of Italian ''Vogue''. GilliganCut to Abbie excitedly telling Lee this.
** The gang trying to convince Kim she doesn't need to carry a gun. When pepper spray is suggested, she retorts she doesn't want to give her potential rapist just a skin rash. Then a knife is suggested.

** Jasper asks if the movie they're making is a porno. Abernathy in about two seconds goes from looking disgusted to excited, and [[SureLetsGoWithThat she giddily says "yes!"]]
** How does Zoe try to bribe Kim to go along with her plan? By cutely saying "I'll be your best friend".
** We're given a few potentially sad seconds of Abernathy and Kim worrying Zoe may have died when being thrown from the car. [[MoodWhiplash She pops up and cheerily says "I'm okay"]], even walking casually back to the car and saying "close one".

* AccidentalAesop: As some have remarked, this film provides a very good lesson on why you should wear your seatbelt and why you should ''never'' hang your leg out of the window or put them on the dashoard in a car, given that [[spoiler:when Stuntsman Mike crashes into the first set's car, three out of the four die die due to wearing no seatbelt (though the one who was wearing a seatbelt also dies too) and Jungle Julia gets her leg [[DeathByDisfigurement chopped off]] due to hanging it out of the window prior]].

** Creator/RoseMcGowan also stars [[spoiler: and is one of the victims]] in a film distributed by the Weinsteins. Additionally, Kim talks about her own fears of getting raped in her apartment building.
** The NoHoldsBarredBeatdown at the end is a little uncomfortable in light of Creator/RosarioDawson facing assault allegations in 2019.
* HilariousInHindsight: This wouldn't be the last Creator/QuentinTarantino [[Film/OnceUponATimeInHollywood movie]] featuring Creator/KurtRussell and Creator/ZoeBell to be about stunt people.

* HollywoodPudgy: Not in the film itself, but Creator/VanessaFerlito is clearly a couple of sizes bigger than her more slender co-stars, and many fans called her fat or overweight because of this.

** Marcie takes the time to go on about how nice Jungle Julia's ass is for the sake of a roleplay.

** Is Jungle Julia softening up over the night just a case of alcohol making her friendlier? Or is the cold treatment she got from Chris giving her a JerkassRealisation, and make her appreciate the friends who are happily spending time with her rather than the boyfriend who can't be bothered to meet her?

* BigLippedAlligatorMoment: Jungle Julia's terse text messages to Chris Simonson, whoever he is, borders on this. It doesn't come ''completely'' out of nowhere, but it is a very strange, mood-breaking scene.

** The girls actually talk about Simonson before they leave Julia's house. Apparently, he's a director who Julia's interested in (and who supposedly has a "big thing" for her), but she's annoyed with how he doesn't seem to pay much attention to her. He's supposed to show up at the bar to meet with the girls, but never does.
--> '''Jungle Julia''': If he had a big thing for me, he'd fuckin' call me, as opposed to disappearing for six months, and he'd get his ass down here more often than he does, and on my birthday he'd give me a fucking phone call! ...but other than that, he's putty in my hands.
* BrokenBase: Opinions are divided on the film. Some think that the car chase at the end more than makes up for all of its flaws. Others just can't stand sitting through the rest of the film up to that point. The main issue is that other than some StylisticSuck at the beginning with the title card and film quality, Tarantino just made a Tarantino movie, which some feel clashes with the far more comedic and over-the-top tone of the rest of the project.

* EthnicScrappy: Averted. Kim has all the recipes to qualify as she is quite stereotypically black. But she's also friggin badass and awesome. WordOfGod is that she's a DistaffCounterpart to Creator/SamuelLJackson.

* ToughActToFollow: After the action-packed ''Film/PlanetTerror'', fans find this one a letdown. Some fans prefer to watch ''Death Proof'' first, helped by the fact that it happens before ''Planet Terror'' chronologically.

* BrokenBase: Which set of protagonists do you prefer? When the film first came out, the second set won out due to having entertaining characters like Kim and Zoe who also [[spoiler: completely own Stuntman Mike in the end]]. However, they also are UnintentionallyUnsympathetic for some with how they treat Lee and Abernathy's dour attitude. The first set are sometimes considered annoying and ultimately pointless [[spoiler: since they get killed off suddenly]], but there are some who find them entertaining (especially Shanna and Pam) and wish they had more screentime. Then there are those who hated all the protagonists, and those who loved both sets.

** Creator/RoseMcGowan also stars [[spoiler: and is one of the victims]] in a film distributed by the Weinsteins.
