What Could Have Been / We Bare Bears

Go To

Thanks to a fan Livestream with creator Daniel Chong, we learned of all the things that weren't included in We Bare Bears original pitch bible, which would have shared the original webcomics name "The Three Bare Bears" These include characters being removed or changed before production some examples include.

Examples:

  • Chloe was going to be 13 years old, studying for her Ph.D. in zoology, as well as would've been seen as a possible love interest for Panda, they rightfully decided not to do that.
  • As a sort of precursor to Ranger Tabes and the Poppy Rangers, there originally was going to be an antagonist for the bears, in the form of a scout leader named Miss Xing, a tiger mom who led a psychotic scout troop called the Tiger Scouts, who would act as cute little mercenaries and would regularly act as a threat towards the bears.
  • There originally was going to be an animal activist lawyer named Sharise, who would've acted as a sort of moral guardian for the bears in case they needed help or advice, but she was shown to be regularly stressed and would question her life choices whenever the trio enter her office.
  • Whenever the bears would look for work, they would've always run into an irate little man named Barnaby, who would always be looking for work, but wouldn't last more than a day thanks to the bears' antics and would be blamed and fired along with them, and from them on would try to suck up and try to gang up on the brothers to get them fired before he does.
  • Finally from the original pitch bible, there was going to be a kind old Vietnamese man, literally named "Old Man" who worked as a busboy at a buffet restaurant, and would regularly give handouts to the bears in the ally and treat them like his own children. This would've also been an example of Write Who You Know since Daniel Chong based this character off an old man who would treat him nicely whenever he visited his Vietnamese restaurant.
  • Possible storyboard ideas for "Jean Jacket".
  • Apparently, things would've been much worse for Ice Bear, then they already were in "Emergency".
  • Chloe could've had a minor role in "Hibernation", at the book store, telling the bears about the title subject. Also, "Miki-chan" would've been called "Yuki-chan".
  • The show almost didn't happen. Daniel Chong once tried pitching a show to Nickelodeon called Pudding Toast. After a change in executives and the pilots being rejected, he eventually pitched We Bare Bears to Cartoon Network.
  • Ken Jeong and Tom Arnold were set to voice Nom Nom and Charlie respectively, before dropping out.

We Bare Bears: The Movie

  • There's a scene in the movie where the bears see The Mystery Machine. Daniel Chong said that this scene would've been taken a step further, and would also cut to inside the van, where the gang is confused, but then they just keep going to Vampire Mountain. note
  • Agent Trout was going to be younger in the film.
