Specifically, she is a lamia, a kind of snake woman. Elizabeth surviving a blast-down from a dragon and being unscathed points to her having some sort of magical protection. Lamias, as snake women, are connected to dragons through their magical reptilian side, hence Elizabeth's resistance to dragon fire. Elizabeth is also able to easily communicate with the dragon, another sign of a connection between her and dragons. Elizabeth shows durability not only in resisting dragon fire, but also by walking for miles barefoot in a paper bag—she’s got super-tough skin. Who else has super-tough skin? Dragons. Elizabeth's hair being untouched in addition to her skin may be because she has the unnaturally strong keratin of dragons; dragons have strong teeth that allow them to bite metal and diamonds.

So here is what really happened: at some point after the initial engagement, Ronald's family saw a potential political advantage if they could get rid of Elizabeth's, one that was more valuable than if they got married. In order to do this, they needed to find an "accident" that could quickly get rid of the rival family before anyone knew what was going on. Their solution was to hire the dragon to "suddenly" attack the castle while most of the family was inside. Ronald was instructed to play along with the wedding to avoid drawing suspicion, the plan being that he would be secretly extracted (disguised as abduction) when the Dragon attacked, before being taken to a safehouse (the cave) where he could be discreetly be turned over. Unfortunately, they didn't count on Elizabeth surviving, so they quickly improvised the act that Ronald had been kidnapped.

When Elizabeth outwitted the dragon anyway, Ronald expressed his distaste for her because she had screwed up the plan. Alternatively, if one wants to apply some AlternateCharacterInterpretation with the above theory, Ronald actually ''did'' have some feelings for Elizabeth, but also knew the political stance between the two families. In other words, he knew that his family would want to have Elizabeth killed if they found out she was still alive, so his rude remarks were actually made with the ''intent'' of motivating Elizabeth to ditch him so that she would get as far away as possible before anyone saw them together.

!Elizabeth is part dragon.

!Prince Ronald and the Dragon were working together

There are a few curious facts related to the circumstances surrounding Prince Ronald's "abduction." First off, it does seem weird that the dragon attacked the castle, completely destroyed it, incinerated Elizabeth's clothes, and presumably killed a number of people in the process; yet he specifically took Ronald and left him relatively unscathed and his clothes remained mostly intact. Then the Dragon takes him to his cave with the apparent intent to eat him, even though he has already "eaten an entire castle today." It is also worth noting that even though Ronald is supposedly a prisoner of the dragon, there is no obvious effort made to keep him from escaping, and he appears to have been allowed to freely move around the cave.

Finally, he refuses an obvious attempt at escaping and apparently allows Elizabeth to leave him to die. Sure, it could be just him being TooDumbToLive and being a classist jerk, but why would he stay behind in the cave. Even if he rejected Elizabeth, he still appears to remain behind. One would think he would still want to take advantage of the fact that the Dragon had fallen asleep out front and was likely going to be out for at least a few hours (giving him plenty of time to get away). It does seem strange that Ronald wouldn't take an opportunity to escape even if he hated the person who made it possible... unless he was never in any danger at all.
