Hey. I'm TropeYoshi, but call me Kurzov. It's what I call myself now everywhere else. I'm a fan of the SHMUPs of Touhou and Len'en, as well as EarthBound/Mother. I'm also a bit of a weather nut.

As for most of my other interests, I'm very much a "Halley's Comet" when it comes to staying active. I will first come across something, show interest for a few months and/or join communities that deal with said interest, then abandon it, usually for a lengthy period of time, for something else.

Outside of my online existence, I'm a pizza delivery driver. (Does that count as Burger Fool?)

Avatar Arena

After the death of my mother (mid-2017), I found a thread on the forums here named the Avatar Arena. Both the original "v6" and the Roleplaying subforum version were active at the time, but I chose to park my lot with the Roleplaying group, and I've never looked back since.

....I was not a good writer, especially at the time, and my early posts in the thread show this as such.

By 2019, my educational circumstances (high school) were beginning to become more serious, and I was also dealing with some frustrating drama in an off-TVT community I was very active in at the time.

I largely abandoned my characters at this point in time, only coming back briefly the following year before taking my leave of absence from the Arena for what would become several years.

In 2022, I rediscovered the Arena and decided "Hey, what the hell, I might as well start posting again." Looking over what I had created previously, my characters from the 2017-2020 era consisted of mostly transplanted Touhou characters, who, alongside additional characters I had written into the Arena, were involved a lot of bad writing and story/plot holes. Many of them had interactions that didn't make a whole lot of sense, alongside several other problems, like over-cheeriness.

Seeing this, I made the decision to scrap what was there and start anew. Fortunately for everyone else, my characters were, by-and-large, not part of the plot that had been built. The few characters that did have some sort of connection to other tropers' characters, I simply carried over. (It helped that said characters were in some of my more better-written posts for the time.)

note (Ever see the difference between my old Konngara and Arachnos's Konngara?)

Touhou

As for my Touhou transplants, I'm trying to keep their original properties/personalities intact, though I'm not always going to stick to said personalities.

As a result of these characters no longer being bound by the Spell Card Rules of Gensokyo (if they originated from there in the first place - some didn't), they can be far more dangerous.

Ungrouped / Out for Themselves

These characters are on their own, at least for the moment.

LUIZE Hat-Collecting, Traveling Makaijin (Colors: Teal, blue alternate)

  • Dimensional Traveler (limited): Luize has been known to travel to various worlds with the help of CROSSLINK, an Interdimensional Travel Device. Sometimes she does this just for the sake of traveling, while other times it's to add to her growing collection of hats.

KIKURI Resolution Goddess (Dialogue color: Gold)

Silent Shrine

These four characters are all nominally tied to the same place: the Silent Shrine, originally from Touhou 1.

KONNGARA Astral Knight (Dialogue color: "Evil", bold alternate)

A shrine protector, with astral powers linked to the stars.

     Konngara ~ Attack Forms
  • Attacks
    • Yaksha Sword Slash
Konngara swings her sword, optionally generating danmaku. Multiple different patterns.
  • Spells
    • Two-Faced Attendant ~ Burning Desire
    • Orion Star ~ Messenger of Fudoo Myoo-oo
    • ...

  • Cool Sword: As seen in her HRtP sprites, Konngara has a neat little sword. It was given to her when she was bestowed the honor of protecting Jigoku's Silent Shrine long ago, and she's kept it around ever since, continuing the tradition when she, and later the Silent Shrine itself, appeared in the Arena.

SUIKA IBUKI Embodiment of Night Parade (Dialogue color: Pink, blue alternate)

Everybody's favorite drunk one-horned oni. Has been known to perform carpentry while blasted out of her mind with sake. However she always seems to be in control of herself while doing so.

     Suika Ibuki ~ Attack Forms
  • Attacks
    • Horn Slash
Suika rushes forward horn-first in an attempt to strike her opponent.
  • Spells (# indicates reworked former spell card)
    • March of the Thousand-Oni Night Parade
Suika splits into countless smaller 'Mini-Suikas', which combine into one-thousand tiny oni groups, visible to the naked eye as a purple haze. Using Suika's power of gathering, anything and everything nearby will be sent flying at the opponent, as dangerous danmaku patterns blindside them from all around.
    • ...

YUUGI HOSHIGUMA Unexplainable Phenomenon (Dialogue color: Purple, red alternate)

     Yuugi Hoshiguma ~ Attack Forms
  • Attacks
    • Yuugi Punch
Oni are very strong... but Yuugi is on another level.
    • ...
  • Spells (# indicates reworked former spell card)
    • #Unexplainable Phenomenon ~ Hoshiguma First Step and
#Heart of an Ancient City ~ Hoshiguma Second Step and
#Arcanum Knockout ~ Hoshiguma Third Step
No longer held back by the Spell Card Rules, Yuugi Hoshiguma has split her old "Knock Out in Three Steps" attack into separate, unique spells.
    • Unshackle ~ Final Phenomenon

REIMU HAKUREI Shrine Maiden of Paradise / Oni-Laden Shrine Maiden (Dialogue color: Red, pink alternate)

     Reimu Hakurei ~ Attack Forms
  • Attacks
    • Gohei Slash (Silent)
    • Persuasion Needle (Hakurei)
    • Homing Amulet (Hakurei)
  • Miko Seals (from Hakurei Powers)
    • Power-Limit Seal
Seal that tempers the target's powers, weakening them. (See: Rumia.) If removal is attempted by means other than the sealer note , a painful burning sensation will result.
    • Movement Seal
Makes the target move slower. Simple as that.
    • ...
  • Spells (# indicates reworked former spell card)
    • #Fantasy Heaven ~ Limitless
Reimu's Last Word, no longer held back by her Spell Card Rules.
    • #Limitless Evil-Sealing Circle
    • ...

  • Aborted Arc: During Reimu's initial run in the Arena (2017-2018), Reimu met another miko, Meisai. This character was written by a troper named AbsentMinded. Eventually I wanted to write Reimu bringing Meisai to Gensokyo for a tour, or something of that nature. However, that never got written, and AbsentMinded later lost contact with us prior to my several-year absence. I have no plans to write this as I haven't spoken to the other troper since.
  • Non-Human Sidekick (maybe): Rbade's spider, Araneo. Reimu once taught the spider the basics of spell cards.

OCs

GYIYG-1 Would-be World Dominating Ship

An eleven-floor starship, far exceeding the ability of any other ship from the worlds in which it originated. Once the prized ship commanded by Gyiyg (Giegue), which he used in his attempted invasion of Earth.

Eventually, long after Gyiyg and his Starmen had escaped to places unknown, a robotic non-Starman unit given the identifier R-7039 took command of the ship. The ship had floated around the vast emptiness of outer space for many years before appearing above the skies of Centralia.

After the robot crash-landed the ship, an engineer came across the wreck and made the GYIYG-1 travelworthy again.

R-7039 would proceed to fly to Reprium and land the ship, properly this time, near the peak of the region's tallest mountain.

R-7039 Psychic Mechanical Implement / Commander of the GYIYG-1

(Dialogue color: Monospace text)

Physically resembling its long-since-destroyed robotic brethren (R-7037, R-7038, R-7038XX), R-7039 was left behind when Gyiyg (Giegue) fled after being defeated by Ninten and Co. in Mother 1. R-7039 communicates by telepathy (between it and other PSI / psychic entities) or by a voice chip integrated into its "suit".

With the GYIYG-1 repaired, R-7039 is now looking for one of the following:
a) Any form of Gyiyg, or of Starmen units - R-7039 is (plotwise) currently unaware of the ultimate outcome of their universe's Gyiyg. Encountering a Gyiyg from another universe may invoke severe instability and/or confusion.
b) Someone capable of fixing the GYIYG-1's psychic devices.
c) Additional help, whether or not they have any psychic capabilities. Being the only "living" being on the ship has its problems - any attempt at battle with the ship in its current state will almost certainly spell defeat for R-7039.

     R-7039's PSI/PK Abilities
  • PK Fire (Wide fire row)
    • Alpha
    • Beta
    • Gamma
  • PK Freeze (Freezing shot)
    • Alpha
  • PK Beam (Series of beams and lasers)
    • Alpha
    • Beta
    • Sigma
    • Gamma
    • Type-R (Knockout unless "dodged" or reflected)

  • PSI Shield (Physical shield)
    • Alpha (single target, fizzle out)
    • Beta (single target, reflective)
    • Sigma (multi-target, fizzle out)
  • PSI PK Shield (Psychic shield)
    • Alpha (single target, fizzle out)
    • Sigma (multi-target, fizzle out)

  • Other abilities not yet documented

Kurzov

I have a bad tendency to disappear for months on end. I'm trying to stop doing that, but owing to my Real-Life priorities I still may be absent for extended periods. You have been warned.
