* NamesTheSame: The [=WaDom=] is not, as the name would suggest, a member the UC (and later CE) timelines' Dom family of mobile suits, but rather an abbreviation for Walking Dome, a reference to the rounded shape of the massive weapons platform that serves as its "head".

** Syd Mead had originally indtended for the titular Gundam to have a much bulkier design. It was rejected but saw new life with it being reworked into the SUMO.

* WhatCouldHaveBeen: At one point in the draft of the ending, Dianna was supposed to be showing obvious signs of age. (She ends up using a walking stick, maybe, and sounds a little older in the final version.)

* FanNickname: "Ghibli Gundam." Not just for the GhibliHills scenery (plus the various flying machines of the Earthers!), but the mostly-lighthearted tone of the series with its gentle and pacifistic protagonist is probably what you would really get if Creator/StudioGhibli decided to do a HumongousMecha story.

* CommonKnowledge: The WhatCouldHaveBeen of Loran originally being conceptualized as a girl is only a rumor.

* WriterRevolt: Tomino wanted to make the protagonist a girl. When [[ExecutiveMeddling the execs said no]], he simply renamed the character and kept him pretty enough to easily be a WholesomeCrossdresser.
** Maybe even the whole series, considering on how different it is to mainstream shows, including other shows in the same genre or even franchise.

** Believe it or not, this show almost got shown on Creator/{{Toonami}}. After ''Anime/MobileSuitGundamWing'' finished airing, Toonami went to sunrise for another Gundam series, with their eyes on this series and ''Anime/AfterWarGundamX''. However, due to ExecutiveMeddling, Sunrise forced them to play the original ''Anime/MobileSuitGundam''...which ended up not finishing it's run. Said executive meddling later led to Toonami being forced to air ''Anime/SDGundamForce''...despite them clearly not wanting to.

* HeyItsThatVoice: As awesome as Harry Ord is, he does not come with [[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGeneration Trombe override]].
** [[Creator/TakehitoKoyasu Gym Ginghnham]] would certainly not go far out of place [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamWing donning a mask and getting in his Talgeese]] or [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamSEED cutting his hair, dying it blonde and getting in a Moebius Zero]]...
