* DevelopmentHell: Creator/GarthEnnis had been trying to get ''Preacher'' to be adapted to film for a while, even writing multiple screenplay drafts. However, the very controversial themes of the series, such as the anti-God tone (to the point of having ''God Himself'' as the [[BigBad main villain]]), discouraged investors from financing the project. When plans for a film fell through, the series was about to have a home on {{Creator/HBO}}. But newly hired executives abandoned the idea out of concern over the anti-religious themes of the story. Before AMC officially picked up the series, Columbia Pictures had bought the rights to produce a ''Preacher'' movie with Creator/SamMendes attached to direct.
