much of this is again fans just making stuff up that stuck as true

* ExecutiveMeddling: The second half of the series had to be retooled after Tomino received the green light for [[TheMovie Char's Counterattack]], and canned Amuro and Char's appearances in ''ZZ'' as a result.
** Though both did receive passing mentions by Hayato and [[spoiler:Sayla]], respectively.

* MarthDebutedInSmashBros: Judau & the ZZ, as well as a handful of other characters and mechs, have appeared in licensed games released in English. Though ''VideoGame/DynastyWarriorsGundam'' is the best known, Judau and Ple-Two's actual stateside debut was the beautifully rendered but otherwise forgettable ''Gundam Battle Assault'' FightingGame.

* WhatCouldHaveBeen: As noted above, Tomino had originally planned to end the rivalry between Char and Amuro in this series, hence the reason why they appeared in the opening. Then he was given the go-ahead for Char's Counterattack, and as a result, planned appearances by Char and Amuro were canned.
** In general, Tomino had a very different original idea for ZZ Gundam; however, his original idea has not been released, and he himself doesn't remember what his original plan for Char's return would've been. It's safe to assume that he was given the go-ahead to conclude Amuro and Char's rivalry in a movie early on in the series, since not only do both Char and Amuro appear in the opening (despite neither making appearances in the show), but the ZZ Gundam is introduced earlier than the Zeta was, and the tone darkens significantly once Haman shows up. It's also likely that Glemmy would've had a reduced role, given that he takes on the role of CharClone later on.

does appear briefly in the novel version.

* KeepCirculatingTheTapes: Believe it or not, there ''was'' an English dub of ''ZZ''... by Animax in Asia. The majority of said dub seems to have been lost to time, with only a few clips ([[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5z5EJU1O1es like this one]]) surviving.

Apparently the main reason it wasn't included on [=RightStuf's=] Blu-ray release was actually because Sunrise didn't like it.

ATT. This is an audience reaction which doesn't belong under Trivia.

* While it is no longer a "trope" as such, Elpeo Ple is historically notable for another major reason outside of ''ZZ''[='s=] general notability: she was one of the ''really'' powerful magnets for "lolicon" fans in the [=1980s=], and because of the nature of much of her plotline and the [[https://gundam.fandom.com/wiki/Elpeo_Ple#Picture_Gallery nature of a lot of her promotional art]] and whatnot, she is often suspected of being one of the first characters in ''Gundam'' (and in mainstream Japanese animation as a whole) to be '''''deliberately targeted''''' at this section of the audience. As a result, Ple can be a powerfully divisive figure in some fandom circles; while the show itself never does anything ''that'' skeevy with her, the mere fact that she can come across as "loli-bait" has been a contributor to criticisms of ''ZZ'' for decades, with a number of fans feeling a character like her has no place in ''Gundam'' at all. Others feel she has her place in the overall structure of the show (especially given how she meets her end and the stark contrast between her and her "sister"), and posit that no matter how the character was presented, even in 1986 the lolicons would have obsessed over her no matter what. Even in the [=21st=] century, the arguments can remain [[FlameWar heated]].
