** Cyclops stops Xavier from psychically forcing Magneto to repair the magentosphere because he fears Bastion hasn't been neutralized yet and doing so might reactivate the Prime Sentinels. This ultimately leads to Magneto suffering a wound that, if it proves fatal, would render Bastion's threat completely moot, along with everything else on Earth.

** Cyclops, panicking in response to what he assumes are Jean's telepathic last words to him as she's beaten by Cable on Earth, blasts Xavier as he's finally managed to gain telepathic control over a dehelmeted Magneto, claiming that the Gold Team needs more time. Thus released, Magneto gives no quarter, restrains nearly everyone around him, including placing his helmet over Xavier's head to staunch any more psychic attacks, and rips out Wolverine's adamantium when he attempts to intervene, leaving Wolverine near death. And since Wolverine manages to inflict a critical injury on Magneto in the process of said intervention, it also seals the fate of life on Earth if Magneto dies since he's the only one who can repair the magentosphere.

* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: Cyclops blasts Xavier as he's taking control of Magneto, claiming that the Gold Team needs more time. This allows Magneto to get his helmet over Xavier's head, leading Wolverine to attack Magneto, which allows him to rip the adamantium out of Wolverine's skeleton but not before suffering a possibly mortal wound to his midsection, which if it indeed proves to be so would also seal Earth's fate.

* InTheBack: While Magneto is focused on Xavier, Wolverine tries to end the fight by stabbing Magneto in the back with his claws. Unfortunately for Wolverine, though agonizing, the injury neither kills Magneto nor leaves him unable to use his powers.

** Magneto calls Xavier out for abandoning Earth for his Shi'ar "bird queen". He forgot that ''he'' was the one who called the Shi'ar over to pick up Xavier and save him with their advanced medical technology in the first place, with any chance of returning practically slim to none.

** Xavier being forced to wear Magneto's helmet is a clear nod to Onslaught and given the ground-zero event that led up to that adversary's birth takes place at the end of this episode, it may well be {{Foreshadowing}}.

** The episode ends with Magneto brutally relieving Wolverine of his adamantium. Whereas in the scene's ''Fatal Attraction'' counterpart, Jean was there to telekinetically hold his body together, here she's miles away back on Earth and with no other telekinetics aboard Asteroid M to fill the part it's questionable how or even ''if'' Logan will survive.

* NiceJobBreakingItHero: Cyclops, panicking in response to what he assumes are Jean's telepathic last words to him as she's beaten by Cable on Earth, blasts Xavier as he's finally managed to gain telepathic control over a dehelmeted Magneto, claiming that the Gold Team needs more time. * SelfServingMemory: As she lashes out at the other X-Men, Rogue accuses them of leaving Morph to die way back when. Rogue herself is just as guilty, if not slightly more, given she knocked out Wolverine when ''he'' wanted to go back. She also claims that none of the other X-Men were there when Genosha fell, despite the fact that Nightcrawler not only ''was'' there, but had been there ''longer'' than Rogue, though technically he didn't become an X-Man until after the disaster.

** Storm's return to the opening credits with her classic outfit now more closely resembles its counterpart in the opening to "WesternAnimation/PrydeOfThe XMen''.

** Jean psychokinetically conjuring bowling balls and a jukebox to hurl at Sinister, sending him running for his life quickly segues into him siccing a mind-controlled Cable on her. Cable unleashes a lethal and possibly fatal assault on Jean which ends with her telepathically reaching out to Cyclops with what they both assume will be her farewell words/thoughts.

* {{Irony}}: When they invade his base, Bastion, through the Sentinels, informs the X-Men that they can't stop the rise of him and his kind, his remarks sounding very much like something Magneto might say.

** At one point during the battle aboard Asteroid M, Sunspot tackles Jubilee and sheepishly apologizes for it. [[AffectionateNickname "Jubes"]], still sore over their breakup when he joined Magneto's side, is having none of it and starts blasting fireworks at him, causing Sunspot to turn tail and run while exclaiming that he said he was sorry. To put things in perspective, this is happening in an episode where the X-Men are being hopelessly overwhelmed on two fronts with many of them restrained or incapacitated, Jean possibly dead, and Logan in, at extreme best, critical condition after having his adamantium forcefully extracted.
