The next arc starts off with a bang, with Sammy and Marcus found dead and stuffed in the grand hall. Immediately believed to be Qord, suspicion quickly falls on Fantasia as the possible mole who allowed him access into the school. A group of demi-gods, known as the Velke, arrive to provide defensive measures against Qord, including special combat classes to help teach the students self-defense. As the teachers contemplate the situation further, it's brought to light that Marcus' had brought with him to the academy the Gem of Might, a magical artifact that enhances and corrupts the user's magical abilities. When questioning why Qord would attack him but not take the Gem, it is also revealed that Marcus was distantly related to the dreaded magician Mobius Blackmore- a fact that immediately has the staff on edge.
Meanwhile Alex, Nate, Nyro and Fantasia run into an odd trio of bullies- Albert, Duke, and Giell. Despite their threatening presence, they leave after accusing Alex of being involved with Qord's infiltration. The group, with the exception of Fantasia, are summoned to one of the Velke's defense classes alongside Elisare, Daigo, Taurin, and Nickle Parrings. Six of them begin a 3 vs. 3 fight in Sphere Space, a virtual reality program designed to test their offensive and defensive capabilities. Nyro, Taurin and Nate versus Alex, Daigo and Nickle.
As Daigo gives Alex more offensive attacks (in the process drawing out his psychotic side) Nickle summons three minions to attack the opposing team - "Shade-Maker" Yuvan, father of Duke; Albia "Of the 666 Beasts", mother of Albert; and Geil "of the Blades", father of Giell. In the ensuing battle Nate is forced to 'kill' Albia, also destroying the other two and resulting in him being possessed by 15 of her Chaos beasts. The trio regroup and continue, with Nyro fighting Alex and Taurin using the power of Caelus to fight Nickle (the former being a win for Nyro and the latter ending in a draw).
The battle ends with Nyro's fiery magic taking out Nate, Daigo and finally herself, fueled by her anger from Daigo mentioning Mobius and thus winning her team the match. The fact doesn't go unnoticed by Matthew Streika, the famous 'Hero of a Million Swords' apparently responsible for Mobius' downfall, and he questions her about her potentially deadly magic. Afterwards he speaks to Amber, as they both try to figure out who has broken into her room during the simulation (that being Fantasia, who had been busy washing bloodied items in Amber's bathroom).
Taurin is taken to the medical bay to tend to his Caelus-related injuries, where he meets his sister Gemina and they discuss his backstory with fellow student Leonard. Nate goes to Amber's lab to sleep at her insistence, but ends up snooping after he finds some reports detailing instances of experimentation on animals. He's interrupted by the Elite Guard Makimura, who uses his Accurse Eye to frighten Nate into discontinuing his prying. He leaves and Amber and fellow Elite Guard Mystletain enter, the latter tasked with observation for reasons relating to the information Nate almost discovered- all of which, along with Matthew's warning that the Guard Ein Woe is after her, prompts Amber into later giving her computer's hard drive of data to the Principal.
The Principal himself visits Taurin and his other sibling Virginia, inquiring into his use of the Caelus magic. Elisare and Reitt discover the Gem of Might is in the Principal's office, and that Marcus had had an argument with the Principal before his murder. After realising the disturbing similarity between Leonard's appearance and Mobius', the two decide to meet outside the dormitory tower that night to talk more about the situation. After Leonard raises his own concerns about the purposes of the Elite Guard and of Qord's murders, Elisare invites him to the gathering too.
A new student called Nathan Reid arrives, interrupting the Principal's discussion with Ein Woe. He learns that he's to be roommates with Leonard, and after a short introduction they make their way to the cafeteria where they find Mystletain in discussion with the Velke Zect and Ariman. Just barely avoiding a confrontation, the two students decide afterwards to show off their spells to one another in the veranda. Nathan runs into Gemina, and after telling her of his theory that the Principal and the Guard are planning to resurrect Mobius they decide to go into the Forbidden Garden to talk more in private. They meet with Daigo there, who reveals his connections to Leonard and invites them both to the meeting that Reitt had invited him to.
Outside the Academy Reitt runs into Nate and gets him on board for the night-time meet-up. After he leaves Fantasia appears, offering advice on Nate's new Chaos magic until she's struck by an asthma attack. Nate's call for help is noticed by Ariman and Mystletain, but after the latter deduces that Fantasia is not the mole they're looking for the two are left alone. Their presence sends Nate into a panic attack, and Leonard and Nathan arrive on the scene as he loses control of the Chaos. Nathan's cryomancy, Fantasia's hypnosis and Leonard's Accurse Eye eventually knock him unconscious, and both he and Leonard are taken back to the Academy to be tended to.
Later that night the students all meet up to discuss what to do next; they eventually decide the best course of action is to break into the Principal's office to garner the Gem and any other information they might need, though Nathan parts with them to instead do research on Mobius and the Accursed Eyes. Of particular note is the Power of the King, an eye that can record and duplicate the powers of other magic users.
Upon finding the Gem, Leonard realises both that he is a reincarnation of Mobius, and that Marcus used to serve Mobius during the Civil War before he lost his memories. Elisare comes across a file detailing Operation Gogmagog, a plan to increase the spells in the Power of the King Accurse Eye by taking them from convicted killers. After a run-in with Ein Woe they all decide to retire for the night, though not before Leonard discovers that the mole had been Reitt all along (though Reitt himself hadn't been aware of it).

The school re-opens its doors for another year of teaching, and everyone is quick to get involved in the preparations; with new kids finding their innate magic, students both old and new forming relationships of all sorts, and an adjustment period of everyone finding and settling in to their dorms.
All is not as well as it seems, however; a news report details the gruesome escape of the feared terrorist Qord, which has the teachers riled behind closed doors. John Smith in particular is perturbed by the news, coming as it is after the Obsidian Vessel has reappeared. Not only that, but the ongoing civil war in Europe reveals itself to have had traumatising effects on many of the students.
Sammy and Gretchen, along with Taurin, decide to explore the academy a bit and run into the cocky vampire Daigo. A fight ensues between him and Taurin, where it's revealed he specialises in time control and thus finds it no challenge to defeat and hospitalise the student. Meanwhile, Alex and Nate decide to investigate the forbidden garden at the former's insistence, running into Fantasia along the way who also decides to tag along. However they're scared off when the staff are notified of their intrusion, narrowly avoiding running into two mysterious men by the names of Zect and Ariman.
Thus the day draws to a close, and now that the students have settled in the real adventure starts to begin...
