!Mermaids Strike Better

Horrified by [[Recap/CentralParkWestS02E06EverythingHasItsPrice Mark cooking a puppy in her apartment]] a few days earlier, Carrie once again tries to dissuade him from stalking her, but he tells her that the fun is just beginning when she calls him. After he hangs up, Jordan appears and kisses him while telling him that she'll do whatever she can to help him publish his book and reject Carrie, who she now believes is crazy.

[[PairTheSpares Dianna and Allan have become a relationship]], right in full view of Adam and Linda. When Dianna barges in on a meeting Adam is holding with the software company they were looking to takeover, he sends the rep out and asks her what she's doing. Dianna tries to tell him that she's acting as TheMole so she can get information from Allan. He rebuffs her explanation and tells her to get lost.

As another day at ''Communique'' begins, Gil and Rachel watch Tyler deliver the mail. He greets them and apologizes for hitting Gil in the nose during their boxing match the day before. When Gil walks away, Tyler tells her that he's been fantasizing about her and walks off, much to her surprise.

Allan takes Dianna out to a racetrack on a date, but when their horse wins and he kisses her, she involuntarily [[SlapSlapKiss slaps him]]. He tells her that he's just trying to get over Linda and doesn't want to move too fast. He asks her to find out as much as she can about the software company, Starworks, so they can initiate their HostileTakeover, and suggests that she should cut all ties to Adam. She goes to Tyler later at work and asks him to bring all of the correspondence from Starworks to her desk, and he reluctantly agrees.

Adam and Linda go out to the Zinc Bar that night and discuss Dianna's actions, along with Carrie, who is chatting up Tyler. Jordan arrives with Mark, causing the happy moment to be ruined. Carrie rails at Mark for his scheme before storming out, with Linda shocked at the allegations.

Outside, Mark and Jordan go to leave as well, and he tells her that he doesn't want to screw up their relationship. At that moment, Carrie appears and steals a copy of the manuscript he was carrying in his coat in an attempt to read it, and the situation escalates with Carrie hitting Mark over and over again. A pair of cops see the altercation and place Carrie under arrest.

The next day, Linda arrives at the police station to find that they've ordered Carrie to undergo a couple days of therapy at a local psychiatric hospital. Neither she nor Linda are thrilled with the revelation, but she reluctantly accepts her punishment. At the same time, Jordan starts [[SpottingTheThread asking questions about Carrie's allegations]], but Mark [[BlatantLies makes up a story]] and says that all he wants is to have a normal relationship with her.

At ''Communique'', Adam and Gil are discussing the Starworks takeover bid when Tyler arrives and attempts to butt his way into the operation. Adam dismisses him after saying he isn't responsible yet, and Tyler goes to Dianna and tells her that something big is going on with the deal and he still feels marginalized in Gil's presence. Dianna conspires to throw a wrench into the plan by forcing Rachel to stay overnight to redo the cover for an upcoming issue of the magazine, then ambushing Gil at his apartment and talking up his importance while stealing a document with key information on the deal.

However, Gil and Adam catch wind of what happened when the former discovers that the document is missing the next day. Adam confronts Tyler, who admits to the plan but says he made an honest mistake, and that Dianna was the mastermind. Adam agrees to let the matter slide, but warns him not to do it again.

Allan agrees to sit down for a meeting to finalize his divorce settlement with Diana, who is skeptical about whether he's telling the truth. Despite talking with Adam about it, she still decides to go to the meeting, where Allan forces her to sign an agreement abdicating her assets under the threat of burning a letter Peter sent him. Linda tearfully signs the agreement, then reads the letter, where Peter explains that he's safe and that Allan will probably use his correspondence as a weapon against her. She brings the letter to Carrie at the psych ward and they both express relief that Peter's alright.

Adam ambushes Dianna with the knowledge that he knew about her attempt at sabotage at the Brock Communications board meeting the next day, and the entire board votes to kick her out. She pledges to get revenge as she's being escorted from the boardroom. That night, Adam attempts to explain his good day to Linda, but she's distracted by the divorce settlement. When he continues to ramble on about his work, she tells him that he's more focused on it than his relationship with her, and she storms out in anger.

Tyler also enacts a plan to seduce Rachel by getting Gil drunk at the Zinc Bar. When he brings Gil back home to his apartment, he tells Rachel that she deserves a better man, and they have a one-night stand. The next morning, Gil sees that Rachel has [[SpottingTheThread a hickey]] on her neck, but she dodges the question and goes off to work.

Adam and the Starworks rep finalize the takeover deal, and the latter agrees to Brock Communications' offer of $88 a share. Allan also arrives and exchanges barbs with Adam, then congratulates him on winning the deal. After he leaves, the rep comments that Allan never bothered to amend his offer, leading Adam to realize that it will be the precursor to a takeover attempt.

At the psychiatric hospital, Mark visits the head doctor and asks if Carrie will be staying at the hospital a while longer, but is shocked when the doctor says Carrie has made excellent progress and will be checking out the next day. Mark sneaks into Carrie's room afterwards and ambushes her, telling her that she can't do anything and that his final chapter is almost complete. He flees the room, while Carrie yells at the surprised orderlies to find him...

Dianna meets with Allan that night and express remorse that the Starworks deal didn't go through. He tells that he has Adam exactly where he wants him, as Brock Communications will be in debt because of the deal and ripe for a takeover bid. After Dianna compliments him on his plan, Brock surprises her with a massive ring and asks her to marry him, saying that she's the type of woman he's been looking for. She agrees, and they embrace as their limousine leaves Rush Media...
