patrons.

* EstablishingCharacterMoment: The whole beginning of the episode establishes Trevor's character. He is clearly put off by the accusations the patrons make towards his family, but would rather get a drink and ignore it than defend them unprovoked. It is not until the patrons goad him into a fight does he actually do something about it, beating all three of them despite the heavy hits he takes and the fact that he is hard-drunk.

Trevor takes his leave and heads towards the city of Gresit, the nearest town. The walled city is a veritable hell on earth, with people slaughtered every night by Dracula's legions and terrorized by the corrupt church by day. He asks around for information in the marketplace and learns about the "Speakers", a group of people attempting to aid the people against the legion; and a legend of a "sleeping soldier" who dwells in Gresit's catacombs who could save the people. The bishop, however, does not like the tales of the sleeping soldier and blames the Speakers for the age of darkness upon them.

* AccompliceByInaction: Trevor is willing to let the people of Gresit die horribly at the hands of Dracula's hordes because they stood by and watched the CorruptChurch excommunicate the Belmont clan and bring ruin to their name and property, also deriving the land of its monster hunters.
-->"For evil bastards to win power, all ordinary people have to do is stand aside and keep quiet. There's always a choice."

* {{Hypocrite}}: Trevor notes the two priests about to kill the Speaker Elder are doing very un-priestly things, such as cussing and carrying weapons.

* PetTheDog: Trevor may be a cynic willing to let good villagers die because [[AccompliceByInaction they stood by and let the church ruin his family]], but urges the Speakers to get out of the city before shit hits the fan at nightfall.

** The bishop and his clergy place the blame for Gresit's state on the Speakers.

The Speaker introduces himself as the group's Elder and brings Trevor back to his dwelling, where he and the others reveal that, nomadic though they were, they stayed in Gresit for two reasons; they are dedicated to aiding the people trapped in the city, and one among them had gone missing in search of the sleeping soldier. That Speaker was the Elder's grandschild.

Trevor is disillusioned: the church had excommunicated his family and wiped them out for the dealings with magic. The Belmonts were the ones best able to fight Dracula, but as far as Trevor was concerned, he doesn't have any obligation to try and fight Dracula any further. Nonetheless, sympathizing with the Speakers for being persecuted for the circumstance of their birth, he makes a deal with the Speakers: in exchange for rescuing the Elder's grandchild, he wants the Speakers to flee from the city.
