* ContinuitySnarl: Mari appears to have not met up with the Arrow or Flash teams again since her own show, yet she somehow knows Laurel, who didn't appear in it. According to WordOfGod, Laurel and Mari will meet in Season 2 of WesternAnimation/{{Vixen}}'', which takes place before this episode.

* ForegoneConclusion: The flash-forward at the end of "Blood Debts" showed that Felicity was ''not'' wearing her engagement ring, and WordOfGod says this was intentional. Sure enough, the engagement is broken off in tonight's episode.

* LeaningOnTheFourthWall: Oliver describes his previous encounter with Vixen as [[WesternAnimation/{{Vixen}} "animated."]] Bonus points for Creator/StephenAmell [[{{Corpsing}} looking like he's struggling to not crack up]].

** When Oliver is explaining who Mari is to the rest of the team, he says he and Barry had met her in an [[IncrediblyLamePun animated]] encounter.

* RealityEnsues: Huh Oliver, turns out your fiancée isn't too happy about you hiding your secret son from her.

* NothingGoodEverHappensInAParkingGarage: When Oliver and Felicity go down to a dimly-lit parking garage from the well-lit physiotherapy room, it's not surprise something bad will happen. Sure enough Darhk steps out of the dark to announce he has Oliver's son hostage.

* YouSaidYouWouldLetThemGo: Given Darhk's attempt to kill the last hostages he has, Team Arrow have no intention of waiting to see if he keeps his word this time. Even though Oliver has withdrawn from the political race and Darhk has set up a meeting to return William, they launch an assault to rescue William and take down Darhk once-and-for-all [[MamaBear with Samantha's full approval.]]

* ItsAllAboutMe: Malcom, who was just exposed to have kidnapped William, tries to blame Thea for her seeming lack of gratitude when he was the one to make her strong.

* NotHelpingYourCase: After explaining to Felicity that he only kept William a secret because Samantha insisted he tell no-one else, Oliver then has to reveal that Thea, Barry Allen, and Malcolm Merlyn were all in on the secret too.

* OldShame: [[Invoked]] Even though over a decade has passed, and it only happened the one time, Samantha still feels deeply guilty about the fact that she slept with Oliver, even though she knew he was with Laurel at the time.

* ReallyGetsAround: This was such an integral part of Oliver's personality before the island that upon finding out about William, Quentin says the only thing that's surprising is that Oliver doesn't have even ''more'' illegitimate children running around.
* TheReveal: Darhk's magic is fuelled by an idol. No idol no magic.

* YourPrincessIsInAnotherCastle: Team Arrow track down where Darhk is holding William only to find he's been moved to another location shortly before.

** In the previous episode, Felicity said that sometimes people keep secrets for good reasons. This episode she learns about William and gets upset about Ollie keeping it a secret from her for good reason.
** Felicity also said she would like to walk again in time to walk down the aisle at her wedding, though she knows that is wishful thinking. She's able to walk again right after calling the wedding off.

** Laurel and Mari apparently have met off-screen. WordOfGod says that Laurel will appear in Season 2 of ''Vixen'', which takes place before this episode.

** Damien Darhk has encountered a previous wielder of Vixen's totem, but he doesn't go into details (he encounters the past Vixen in Season Two of ''Series/LegendsOfTomorrow''.

* BoringButPractical: Vixen looks like she's going to face down with Darhk again...only to grab his totem and run off with it. Darhk is actually rather flummoxed.

* ThrowTheDogABone: Oliver rescues his son but can't unmask himself to William, but at least he has the satisfaction of seeing his son ask for a Green Arrow figurine to replace his Flash one. Samantha agrees that the Green Arrow is quite a hero.

* SuperWindowJump: The Green Arrow bursting in on Darhk, who has no problem [[DestinationDefenstration throwing him out the same window shortly after]].

* AllsWellThatEndsWell: Averted; the need to rescue William only puts off the conflict between Felicity and Oliver, and she breaks off their engagement at the end of the episode.

* BroughtDownToNormal: Darhk's magic powers disappear after Mari destroys his power source.

* CallingTheOldManOut: Upon finding out he had her nephew kidnapped, Thea gives Malcolm a ''vicious'' - but thoroughly well deserved one in this episode.

* BittersweetEnding: Oliver is forced to quit his mayoral campaign and has his wedding called off, but he successfully saves his son, finally decides on how he will handle his parenthood, and FINALLY manages to land a major victory against Dahrk by taking away his magic and having him arrested.

* MoodWhiplash: Oliver and Felicity share a particularly tender and tear-worthy moment after the biochip doesn't immediately restore her ability to walk. Then in walks Dahrk.
