From the start he proved a highly competent warrior, gaining [[BloodKnight a love of combat]] and being an effective hand to his weak half-brother King Aenys. Though effective in many regard, he was a ruthless figure who usurped the throne from his nephew, killed him and proved to be [[TheCaligula a blight on the realm]]. Bloodthirsty, antagonistic to his own family, ruining the lives of many families in hopes of siring an heir and bringing harm to every part of society he has well earned to sobriquet "Maegor the Cruel".
* His mortal coil was shed under suspicious circumstances. As his nephew Jaehaerys was leading a rebellion against him, he was found with his wrists cut open on the Iron Throne. Some say he was assassinated, some say the throne itself killed him, but most agree he probably [[BetterToDieThanBeKilled committed suicide rather than suffer defeat]]. He was not happy to learn said nephew would go on to become one of the most beloved kings to ever sit the Iron Throne.
* He is considered the quintessential tyrant in Westeros, [[ZeroPercentApprovalRating and is seen as THE most hated king of all]]. Hell, even his ''name'' became an expletive and got a future heir removed from the inheritance due to also being named Maegor(given who [[RoyalBrat the dad, Aerion, was like]] this was probably a good idea). [[Pantheon/{{Royalty}} Aerys II]] and [[Pantheon/{{Mindsets}} Aegon IV]] have held that title, but even they didn't turn the Faith Militant against them. They're infamous in different ways however; while Aerys was mad and Aegon the Unworthy willfully incompetent, Maegor was straight up cruel and evil. Doesn't seem to think much of his fellow "worst kings" however, since he sees himself as better due to being aggressive and ruthless rather than insane or stupid.
* One of the main reasons behind his infamy is also his greatest achievement; the completion of the Red Keep, and the construction of Maegor's Holdfast. He rewarded the builders with a great feast for their efforts, only to violate [[SacredHospitality guest right]] by butchering them so as to keep the secrets of the Red Keep to himself. This appalling act has upon his ascension led to him being banned from Pantheon/{{Celebration}}. It did end up with him finding an ally in Walder Frey, who committed an equally infamous violation of guest right in [[NastyParty the Red Wedding]].
* Started controversy early by trying to take multiple wives as his father did, six in total. Three were "The Black Brides" who were wed in a single ceremony, widows of those he had indirectly or directly made widows. He had three other wives. Of the six, only two outlived him. He would bed and marry so many in hopes of producing an heir, but all he produced were stillborn and miscarried abominations. [[NoCelebritiesWereHarmed It's similar to Henry VIII]], even down to the fights they had against the Church. As such he and the Defender of the Faith are on good terms, but Henry is hesitant because [[EveryoneHasStandards he considers much of Maegor's actions psychopathic]].

The Pantheon/{{Felines}} dislike him because [[BadPeopleAbuseAnimals he killed a cat with his new sword]] as a kid, and Glenn Quagmire has sworn to get back at him for this. Maegor hates Glenn because he was capable of siring many bastard children with the women he sleeps with, whereas he tried everything and was left with no heir. He hates the Matsuno Brothers out of envy and spite [[EvilIsPetty for being an "affront" to his poor fertility]].
* He does not like the Faith Militant, and the feeling is mutual given he was the product of BrotherSisterIncest like Aenys and his polygamy was seen as heretical. To suppress the Faith of the Seven he had Balerion burn down the Great Sept with worshipers inside it. While it was overboard, [[JerkassHasAPoint he wasn't entirely wrong in requiring force to keep the Faith of the Seven from troubling the throne]]. Cersei would learn this, and having learned [[MoralEventHorizon the wildfire plot in the Great Sept]] he couldn't help but applaud her and become her ally. Gets along with her muscle Gregor Clegane too due to their love of violence.
* As expected, he is hated by the entire House of Pantheon/ReligionAndFaith. Some more than others, as his hate towards Faith Militant led him to oppose religious juggernauts Alexander Anderson, Rosette Christopher and Purist Thunderwrath. Simba and Mufasa don't like him either because he's an EvilUncle usurper king like Scar, though these were the very same traits that led Scar to become an ally of him.
* A believe of MightMakesRight, and MurderIsTheBestSolution. It is this viewpoint that is at the core of his cruelty, and ultimately his FatalFlaw. To his credit he is a strong and powerful fighter. For this reason he respects both Alarak and Ramses II, even if they don't agree on other policies. He also works with well with Ghetsis Harmonia due to the desire for power and cruel actions towards family, and Palpatine for their shared EvilOverlord nature.
* One of the main reasons he was so cruel was overcompensating for being the second son, and like the infamous [[RoyalBrat Joffrey Baratheon]] [[WellDoneSonGuy he wished for approval from his father]]. Unfortunately he would focus too much on the military aspect of the Conqueror. The family reunion wasn't happy in the slightest, as Aegon was ''horrified'' to learn what he'd done, outright saying that [[CompleteMonster he is one of the most evil people to have ever lived]]. [[VillainousBreakdown Maegor took this very poorly]], [[AesopAmnesia but ended up assuming he needed to be even more ruthless and cutthroat]].
* Asides from maybe Aegon the Conqueror, the only other person he has an ember of humanity for is his mother Visenya. This isn't surprising though, as she helped make sure he got the throne. It's believed she poisoned Aenys to help him get the throne, but Maegor states he was simply sickly. Whether he's being truthful [[PragmaticVillainy or trying to save face]] is unknown. He does seem to get along somewhat with his distant great-nephew Daemon Blackfyre as well, being they are strong usurpers. [[EvenEvilHasStandards Daemon still considers him pretty evil though]].

[[VideoGame/KirbysReturnToDreamland When he first arrived,]] he enlisted Kirby's help to repair his ship which was blasted out of the sky by a dragon called Landia. When he eventually got his ship repaired, he allowed Kirby and his friends to visit Halacandra, his home planet, only to be attacked by Landia, prompting them to go after and fight Landia. It was a success, [[BigBad just as]] [[ManipulativeBastard Magolor hoped,]] stealing the crown that was on Landia's head for himself and absorbing its power with threats of taking over Dreamland first because Kirby was such a big help, [[AffablyEvil all while genuinely thanking him for rebuilding his ship for him.]] During the ensuing fight, there are rumors that popped up that Magolor was slowly becoming a husk to the Master Crown. After it was destroyed, Magolor was freed and was teleported to another place beyond time and space. Somewhere between that and his return to Dreamland, [[HeelFaceTurn Magolor decided to apologize to Kirby for his actions by building him an amusement park.]] Despite the severity of his actions, it seemed to work, and he was EasilyForgiven.
** His ascension occurred overnight, with him appearing in the Pantheon on the Lor Starcutter after hearing of it from Kirby, building a brand new theme park for Kirby and everyone there to try. When some deities from the Court of the Gods pointed out that he wasn't even an official deity, let alone get the permits for it, he apologized and explained his zealous nature for building amusement parks before asking them for their forgiveness. The crowd obliged, [[ManipulativeBastard before Magolor pointed out that along with his story of forgiveness]] [[LateArrivalSpoiler that they all probably know by now]], as well as the fact that he was just forgiven with ease just now, he requested if he could take the title of Easily Forgiven deities. The fact that Magolor casually ends his meetings with Meta Knight with something along the lines of him saying he needs to test a new weapon that could wipe out a planet or rigging a course to make sure Kirby can't pass it doesn't help, even less so when he suggests that he may be jealous at how much cooler the Lor Starcutter is than the Halberd.
