Inuzuka Kouhei, a recently widowed math teacher, is struggling to keep his house in order while trying to take care of his daughter, Tsumugi, alone. His cooking skills are atrocious, forcing him and his daughter to eat convenience store bento boxes for dinner.

While viewing the cherry blossoms one spring, they come across a crying girl eating her delicious picnic alone. Introducing herself as Iida Kotori, she invites the two of them to drop by her mother's restaurant. One night, Kouhei decided to take Tsumugi out for dinner when they discovered that the restaurant has been (temporarily) closed for some time...and Kotori can't cook at all. After dinner, Kotori asked Inuzaka if they would be able to drop by for dinner more often.

''Amaama to Inazuma'' (translated as ''Sweetness and Lightning'') is a food SliceOfLife manga by Amagakure Gido, and serialized in ''good! Afternoon'' by Kodansha. It was adapted into an anime in the summer of 2016, [[http://www.crunchyroll.com/sweetness-lightning and can be legally viewed with subtitles on Crunchyroll]].

----

!Amaama to Inazuma provides examples of:

* AdultFear: Tsumugi's walk through town in episode 7, which includes her almost getting run over by a bike. Another example from the same episode would be Kouhei waking up to find that Tsumugi snuck out of their apartment on her own.
* AgeInappropriateDress: Kotori's mom wearing a ''sailor fuku'' on TV.
* AloofDarkHairedGirl: Kotori in school mode. At first, Kouhei didn't recognize her as the same girl they talked to in the park.
* AlwaysInClassOne: Kotori is a student in Class 1-A.
* BigEater: Kotori. She eats during class, and even ate a picnic box meant for two people.
* BreakTheCutie: After being accused of being a thief by one of her classmates in episode 3, Tsumugi is downcast for much of the episode.
** In episode 7, Tsumugi told Kotori that no matter what, she didn't cry in her mission to ask for her help. But one harsh rebuke from Kouhei when he finally finds her with Kotori...
* CoolBigSis: Tsumugi thinks of Kotori as such.
* CradleOfLoneliness: Despite its age and wear, Tsumugi refuses to let Kouhei replace her bag because it was handmade for her by her mother.
* EveryoneCanSeeIt: A more subtle example as it's not outright said, but people sometimes shoot knowing looks at her whenever Kotori's crush on Kouhei makes itself evident.
* FoodPorn: This manga is all about cooking
** It's often mentioned that one of Kotori's [[ObsessedWithFood true loves is eating]].
* GenkiGirl: Kotori's best friend, Shinobu.
* IdiotHair: Kotori's messy hair is sometimes depicted sporting one of these.
* IronicFear: Kotori is afraid of knives. Considering her love of food, it's significant given that this fear prevents her from cooking.
* LethalChef: Played straight with Kouhei when he cooks alone, which caused Tsumugi to make a 'face he had never seen her make before.'
** Despite not having cooked in her life before, Kotori is a subversion of this in the first chapter.
* MinorInjuryOverreaction: Tsumugi had one when Kouhei accidentally cut his finger once.
* MistakenForTerrorist: A variant, as Kotori mistakes Yagi for a kidnapper when she first encounters him looking after Tsumugi, in part due to him having the FaceOfAThug and offering Tsumugi chocolate, which she mistook as a cigarette.
* MomentKiller: An averted one of the non-romantic variety, but after seeing how adorable Kohei, Tsumugi and Kotori are while learning about how to cook, Shinobu has Yagi, a trained chef, stop helping out, referring to it as preserving a ''National Monument''. After actually watching them, Yagi agrees and backs off.
* {{Noob}}: Both Kouhei and Kotori could not cook at all at the beginning of the manga.
* ParentalAbandonment: Kouhei's wife, who is Tsumugi's mother, died six months before the beginning of the manga.
** Kotori's mother is usually not home most of the time due to working for a TV show for supplemental income.
* PlainJane: Type 2. Kotori when she's not in school mode.
* SliceOfLife
* SuspiciouslySpecificDenial: Kotori claims that she isn't crying because her mother bailed on their cherry blossom viewing at the last minute.
* TagalongKid: Tsumugi
* TeacherStudentRomance: Kotori has a crush on Kouhei, though it's one-sided on her part.
* TheOneGuy: Kouhei is often one among the other mothers at Tsumugi's preschool.
* ThroughHisStomach: Kotori is trying to battle her loneliness through Inuzaka's stomach.
* WhenYouComingHomeDad: Despite his best efforts, Kouhei sometimes has to come home late.
** The reason why Kotori invited the Inuzakas to come over for dinner regularly is because of her mom having to deal with things outside of home during the evenings and nights.
