* ''Fanfic/TheMorrigan'': Luna (Earth's moon) is this to the Three Witches War. The companies of the Benerit group have enough presence there that it could strictly speaking be considered CAUL-aligned, but it's close enough to Earth and Quiet Zero that it's in name only, and largely serves as a demilitarized zone. [[spoiler:The neutrality is broken when Felsi Rollo, a Dawn of Fold officer, is attacked by the Valkyries, the CAUL's WildCard. This escalates into a duel between the Valkyries and first Chuatury Panlunch, another DOF officer, and then the titular Morrigan, piloted by DOF's leader Nika Nanaura-Fardin and her wife. And then the whole place is glassed into nothing by Ericht Samaya, a nominally DOF-aligned WildCard even wilder than the Valkyries.]]

* ''Fanfic/TheBridge'': New Birth Island is this: It’s Biollante’s territory, and she wants nothing to do with the current kaiju war. Her brothers, Godzilla Junior and Xenilla, are the only other kaiju allowed on the island, making this a TruceZone for them- which is a bit awkward because they’re the rival leaders of the two main factions in said war. Therefore, their invitations have the stipulation that if they start fighting, they will both be booted out. Any other kaiju or faction member setting foot on the beach or flying through the island’s airspace- be they a Terran Defender such as Mothra, a Mutation such as Destroyah, an [[Film/PacificRim Anteverser who got turned around on their way to the coast]], another neutral jkaiju such as Film/{{Cloverfield}}, a GDF mecha or scientist team, a Coalition scout ship, etc- is going to be attacked on sight.

More on the gridiron neutral zone.... actually, zones.

* In UsefulNotes/AmericanFootball, the neutral zone is the strip of field running from sideline to sideline marked by where each end of the football is located after the referee spots it. No player except the center is allowed inside this area before the ball is snapped - if a player lines up in the neutral zone (or beyond) when the ball is snapped, it's a five-yard offside penalty on the offending team (the play, however, will be allowed to continue to its normal completion - the offended team will then have the option of taking either the play's result or the penalty).

Added DiffLines:

** Kickoffs have a different neutral zone. The kicking and receiving team are separated by 10 yards in all rule sets except for that of the current XFL. The kicker (and, if used, holder) are the only players who can enter this neutral zone before the ball is kicked. In the XFL, the neutral zone is only 5 yards wide, and no player on either team except the kicker and a single returner can move until (1) the ball is fielded or (2) 3 seconds after the kick touches the ground.
** The NFL established a ''[[RuleOfThree third]]'' neutral zone as a response to a 2005 fight between opposing players before the opening kickoff. During the pregame, each end of the field is reserved for one team, and no player other than the kicker can be between the 45-yard lines before the coin toss.
** UsefulNotes/{{Canadian football|League}} also has a neutral zone on scrimmage plays (formally called the "scrimmage zone"), but it's one yard (3 feet, or 91 cm) wide, measured from the the tip of the ball closest to the defending team's goal line. Kickoffs use the same neutral zone seen in the States (except the XFL). Penalties for violations are identical in both codes.

* In medieval Europe, a "march" or "mark" was a territorial borderland that served as a buffer between rival kingdoms or other entities, so named as they were generally about as large as a hostile army could march in a day before they had to stop and set up camp for the night, at which point the defenders would be alerted to their presence. The word lives on in modern times in, among others, the country of Den'''mark'''.

** After the events of the ''Film/StarTrekVITheUndiscoveredCountry'', with the Federatio and Klingon Empire entered into a period of non-aggression starting with the conference at Khitomer and eventually moved into an alliance the term was use almost exclusively in reference to the Romulans as Klingons and Federals no longer needed a "neutral" zone between them.

* ''Franchise/StarTrek'' had the Neutral Zone separating the United Federation of Planets from the Klingon Empire and Romulan Star Empire and the Klingon Empire as shown on ''Film/StarTrekVTheFinalFrontier''. A Neutral Zone forbade all travel within the specified borders, and any violation was regarded as an act of war. There was also a Demilitarized Zone between the Federation and the Cardassian Union.
