* ''VideoGame/{{Overwatch}}'': Zenyatta is ''VideoGame/{{Overwatch}}'' has a faction known as the Shambali, an order of Omnic robot and was part of the backstory's massive RobotWar. He and several of his Omnic buddies have since found not-quite-Buddhist monks who sought peace and enlightenment and have amassed a great following among humans and robots alike. There's even a minor religious schism; most the massive RobotWar of the monks preach, but game's backstory, with an overarching belief that all life -- including human and Omnic -- are all one within "The Iris". A handful of members of the order are both playable and important for the overarching plot, each reflecting their own take on their shared philosophy:
**
Zenyatta is a nomadic WarriorMonk who believes in practice and outreach as a pragmatic form of sharing their philosophy, rather than simple preaching. He's an Omnic of a few layers -- on one hand, he's gentle, patient, [[GentlemanSnarker has an amusingly elegant sense of humor]], and always has bits of zen wisdom to spare for those seeking his assistance. However, [[WarriorTherapist his ability to practically peer into peoples' souls is more pragmatic.something he isn't afraid to weaponize]], [[BewareTheNiceOnes he also considers violence an inadvisable, but viable option against certain threats]], and is in fact [[CombatMedic one of the deadliest "Support" characters in the game]] by virtue of having surprisingly high raw damage. He's also believed to have had ties to the formation of the Shambali and the origins of Omnickind reaching sapience, [[MysteriousPast but this is a matter he's suspiciously coy about]].
** The non-playable Mondatta was among the leaders of the Shambali immediately following the Omnic Crisis, considered a brother figure to Zenyatta before they split due to their schisms, albeit on affable terms. [[GoodShepherd Widely considered a beloved figure in attempting to bridge relationships between human and Omnic]], [[TooGoodForThisSinfulEarth he was tragically assassinated by Widowmaker to disrupt such efforts]].
** Ramattra, meanwhile, is [[EnlightenedAntagonist a villainous former monk of the order]]. [[FallenHero He originally also sought peace following the Omnic Crisis]], but eventually grew cynical of [[HumansAreBastards humanity's ability to ever share their world with Omnickind]] and started the extremist group, Null Sector, [[YourTerroristsAreOurFreedomFighters to "liberate" Omnics from their oppressors whether they want it or not]]. Among his twisted plan to "save" his kind is not merely [[KillAllHumans to wage war against humanity]], but to also forcibly [[AscendToAHigherPlaneOfExistence "ascend" his Omnic brethren to a higher plane of existence]] which he believes to be The Iris. He sees his actions as liberating his kind and sending them to a realm of heavenly peace, but ''just about everyone else'' sees it as mass murder.
