* There's a hilarious example of this in ''Webcomic/GirlGenius'', when Gilgamesh and Agatha are first testing Gilgamesh's [[ThoseMagnificentFlyingMachines flying machine]] (or rather, as Agatha sourly points out, "[[http://www.girlgeniusonline.com/comic.php?date=20030623 It's a falling machine. I'm so impressed.]]") by starting from Baron Wulfenbach's airship. As they both slip into Spark-mode, their growing excitement about repairing and upgrading the ship in mid-flight almost fatally distracts them from the approaching doom.

** In "Chapter 11: Lost in Outer Space", a Fake Defector sabotages the rocketship so he and Cody will be forced to go outside and repair it. While doing so he tries to CutTheSafetyRope and kill Cody, who [[IdiotBall isn't wearing his jetpack for once]]. His crew just fly the rocketship beneath him to CatchAFallingStar.

* ''Film/CommandoCodySkyMarshalOfTheUniverse''. Our hero has the advantage in that if he falls off his RetroRocket while doing this trope, he can save himself with his trusty JetPack. This doesn't stop it being PlayedForDrama.
** In "Chapter 2: Atomic Peril", the villains capture Commando Cody and steal his rocketship, so he surreptitiously clogs the vent for the atomic pile so they'll be forced to let him go outside the hull to clear it. While he's there Cody manually seals off the port steering jet so they'll just fly around in circles, forcing the villains to surrender. After handing over their guns, they ask Cody why he doesn't go outside again to repair the damage, only to be told he can open the jet just by using the controls in the cabin.
** In "Chapter 3: Cosmic Vengeance", it's the villains who sabotage his rocketship so Cody has to go outside again, then crawl inside the rocket tube to clear the exhaust vents.

* In one episode of ''WesternAnimation/TaleSpin'', Baloo ends up in an escalating business feud with Louie. Rebecca came up with a plan to help increase business by making Baloo start the world's first mid-air refueling service. This caused traditional travel stops like Louie's to go out of business, so Louie countered by starting his own company using his army of monkeys to provide the mid-air equivalent of a full service station. Rebecca countered that by having Wild Cat start going up with Baloo so that he could fix planes in mid-air.
