* ''Franchise/{{Danganronpa}}'': [[spoiler: The BigBad of the franchise (or at least, the Hope's Peak Academy Saga), Junko Enoshima, really PlayedWith this trope. Junko, as revealed in [[Anime/Danganronpa3TheEndOfHopesPeakHighSchool the series' anime,]] is the Ultimate Analyst, meaning she can [[AwesomeByAnalysis analyze anything to the point where she can see the future.]] Her intellect made her hopelessly bored with the world, and she went insane after developing an obsession with despair. This obsession formed due to her seeing despair as chaotic and unpredictable, causing her to fall in love with it to the point of ''[[NightmareFetishist fetishizing it.]]'' She successfully manages to engulf the world in despair, and while she revels in it for a time, she ultimately grows bored again. In this case, the insanity of the despair-ridden world has started to bore her because everything is going according to her plan; i.e. VictoryIsBoring. When she appears in [[VisualNovel/DanganronpaTriggerHappyHavoc the first game proper,]] she cycles through several kinds of personas while in conversation with the remaining students, saying that she herself grows bored with her own personality very quickly. In ''[[VisualNovel/Danganronpa2GoodbyeDespair Danganronpa 2]]'', Junko is surprisingly more subdued and melancholic compared to before, as if even her last desperate attempt at restarting worldwide despair doesn't excite her anymore. When the 77th Class students break down, unable to choose their fate, Junko's willing to trap them in an eternal illusionary loop just to kill time. One could argue that this trope is essentially Junko's FatalFlaw; even when she achieves victory in madness, she'll end up sabotaging her own victory just so she can feel a temporary boost of mad excitement again, only for it to fade away, creating a ViciousCycle that leads to her defeat.]]

* ''[[Anime/Danganronpa3TheEndOfHopesPeakHighSchool Danganronpa 3: The End Of Hope's Peak High School: Future]]'': [[spoiler: This leads to the end of Monaca's story in ''Danganronpa''. After the end of ''[[VideoGame/DanganronpaAnotherEpisodeUltraDespairGirls Ultra Despair Girls,]]'' her plans were foiled and she was rescued by Nagito, who was brainwashed into being a Remnant of Despair. Since her original plan of corrupting Komaru Naegi into Junko's Successor failed, Nagito proposed an alternative: train ''Monaca'' into becoming the Successor. After all, thanks to being defeated, Monaka finally learned the meaning of despair, so she had the potential to do so. Ironically, Nagito, the one who proposed the idea, would also ruin it. His constant crazed diatribes on hope and despair eventually caused Monaca to become bored and disillusioned with the conflict for the fate of the world. As she admits to Komaru and Toko, Nagito made Monaca realize that she didn't want to become crazy like him; therefore, she didn't want to become crazy like Junko.]]

Monaca ultimately decides to just run away and become a {{NEET}} living in ''outer space,'' leaving the post-apocalyptic world behind. Komaru, from her end, actually believes that, after a while to herself, Monaca will decide to return to Earth. Someday.]]
