* OpposedMentors: In book six Fisk realizes he's got a case of this. On the one shoulder he's got his father, a loving, kind, and intelligent dreamer who was foolish to the point of ruin, and on the other Jack a cold, heartless con man who is incredibly successful in his profession. Most of his life he chooses to listen to the latter but when Kathy confronts him over it he decides to take a few lessons from his father instead.

* SurpassedTheTeacher: [[spoiler: when Fisk breaks Jack out of jail he tells Jack that he scammed Roseman bringing the royal army down on him. Jack was employed by Roseman specifically because he failed to scam the man himself. When they part Jack is actually scared of Fisk. In the last book Fisk notes that he doesn't think of Jack as much anymore, probably because he beat Jack at his own game.]]
