** A minor one, but when Andy gives Rex to Bonnie he describes him as "the meanest, most terrifying dinosaur who ever lived". In the first movie, it's shown that a major insecurity of Rex was that he felt that he wasn't scary enough.

** Lotso's old henchtoys tag teaming to be played with by the playful and rough toddlers of the Caterpillar Room, rather than leaving a single group of toys to suffer alone, all while Barbie and Ken cheer and support them. It's rough, but by working together, they can still have fun. It’s very much clear they’re doing this to make up for their time being with Lotso.
*** Even the Cymbal Monkey that provided a huge chunk of the movie's NightmareFuel is redeemed here, watching and joining the DancePartyEnding from the P.A.

* A bit Meta, but the inclusion of a [[Anime/MyNeighborTotoro Totoro]] doll in some scenes, truly heartwarming, because it shows the high amount of respect that Pixar has for [[Creator/StudioGhibli their predecessors]].
** He has a small smile or a relatively neutral expression on his face for most of the film, but in the last shot before the closing credits he finally breaks out the famous Totoro grin for the first time -- and he does it again, multiple times, during the credit roll.

* When Bonnie first meets Jessie. Now, for the first time since her first owner Emily abandoned her, Jessie will have a little girl to play with her.
** The entire ending is made even more heartwarming when you look at things through Jessie's perspective. She spends the first half of the movie convinced that Andy has moved on and doesn't care about them anymore, even stating that it's "Emily all over again", only to find out that not only does still care about her, but is genuinely upset when he believes his mom accidentally threw his toys away. In the end, Andy not only gives a cute description about Jessie before giving her to Bonnie, but also states that she and all of his other toys mean a lot to him, essentially proving Jessie wrong about the idea of kids outgrowing their toys and eventually forgetting about them.

* A meta-example: While Pixar could have gotten any actor to voice college-aged Andy, their first choice was the same actor who voiced him in the first two films (John Morris). Especially since Toy Story 2 was his last role and they had to track him down. And so is for Sid, Erik von Detten still become his voice actor, although unlike John Morris, Erik already had many other roles in-between ''Toy Story'' and ''Toy Story 3''.
** Another meta-example: shortly after the release of ''Toy Story 2'', Slinky Dog's voice actor, Creator/JimVarney, passed away. While it would've been easy to just write Slinky out of the film (as had been done with Wheezy after Creator/JoeRanft's death), Pixar felt that Slinky was such an important character to the ''Toy Story'' franchise that the crew chose to re-cast the character. Which actor did they find and trust enough to carry forth Varney's legacy? Creator/BlakeClark, known for his roles on ''Series/BoyMeetsWorld'' and ''Series/HomeImprovement'' (oh, and was also a good friend of Varney's). Needless to say, Clark has proven to be the perfect successor as Slinky, with only the most trained ears being able to spot the vocal differences between him and Varney.

In the final scene, you can see one of the Aliens walking to the Peas-in-a-Pod. It is a bit hard to notice, so look closely.

** Something easy to miss as the camera pans up is the rest of Andy's toys starting to acquaint themselves with Bonnie's toys. Woody begins to introduce Buzz to Dolly. The Potato Heads shake hands with Chuckles. Ham starts a conversation with Mr. Pricklepants. Bullseye and Buttercup and Trixie and Rex both go straight to each other, finding kindred spirits.

--->'''Andy:''' Now Woody, he's been my pal for as long as I can remember. He's brave, like a cowboy should be, and kind and smart. But thing that makes Woody special, is he'll NEVER give up on you, EVER, and he'll be there for you, no matter what.

unfunny way to shoehorn in an opinion

* When Bonnie first meets Jessie. Now, for the first time since her first owner Emily abandoned her, Jessie will have a little girl to play with her. The score for that moment could have easily been "When She Loved Me"; it probably wasn't so that Toy Story fans could see the rest of the movie, instead of solid tears.
