1. First, she concealed the information that there was hostile alien life from the rest of the world. Which is understandable for the Kerberos mission and Shiro’s return, since no one knew what was going on and there was no need to risk unnecessary panic. But, when Sam Holt came back all the info on what was going on and that there was a confirmed hostile alien force, she STILL kept things secret, even when it was clear that the Galra KNEW where Earth was and were ACTIVELY HOSTILE TO EVERYONE. Her rational for doing so was to avoid panic, but that’s ridiculous considering that an invasion was basically imminent and Earth was BADLY outgunned by the Galra in every way, and they needed resources and aid to make sure Sam could get the technology they need for defense up and running.

2. Second, she completely dismisses Sam’s advice when the Galra begin their invasion, instead using standard tactics and a few of their new weapons against them even when Sam tells it will not work. She doesn’t allow him to launch the M.F.Es or use their new Particle Cannon since they’re untested, which is fair to a degree, but that does not excuse her throwing under-equipped troops into battle against a FAR superior foe out of what appears to be arrogance and her own ignorance making her underestimate the Galra.

3. Finally, Sanda makes the BRILLIANT decision to leak the battle plan against the Zaiforge installations to Sendak, as part of a deal with him in order to have him get the Lions and leave Earth alone. Which is completely asinine. The Lions were literally the best weapons humanity had against the Galra and were their best hope of victory. Moreover, Sanda trusted Sendak, a conquest-hungry proud member of the Galra Empire which has been engaging in such actions for longer than human history and whom she has been fighting for years…and ACTUALLY EXPECTED HIM TO KEEP HIS WORD. Wow. What’s especially egregious there is that thanks to the data from the Castle of Lions, the Garrison had a copy of Sendak’s memories and an interface from which to learn what his tactics and plans might be. And at no point do we even receive a hint that Sanda used said interface to determine if Sendak would actually keep his word. And this was something she was considering from the moment the Paladins returned to Earth.

So, in conclusion…why was this woman still left in charge?!

**I think the reason is most likely due to the Paladins: they are used to flying/working with HUMAN aircraft, which doesn’t have a tail and usually doesn’t have any rear-firing weapons besides mines or flares. And, from a more practical standpoint….they can’t exactly look straight back in the cockpit to aim.

* Just how much destruction has the Galra Empire caused over the millennia it’s existed? Back in Season 1, it was stated that they had conquered most of the known UNIVERSE. However, during Season 8, Allura brought up that Zarkon’s murdered MILLIONS. That…seems like VERY low amount, considering universal conquest and all. Realistically, that number should be at least a few million times larger, so this has to be a case of SciFiWritersHaveNoSenseOfScale, right?

* In the very first episode, Keith mentioned that the cave drawings he found said that some “event” would happen the night before, which lead to him going to save Shiro and thus meeting the other future Paladins. What I get from this is that someone KNEW that the Paladins would meet that night, and thus become the Defenders of the Universe. My question is “How?” Was this a matter of DestinySaysSo (in which, does that mean EVERYTHING the Paladins have done was due to predestination)?

Or was it the work of someone like Slav, who saw that the Paladins would eventually come, and that carvings would be necessary to make sure that Keith knew to look for Shiro (and thus cause everything in the series)?

**It might have been for morale, alongside other things. Think about it, what would have the more powerful impact on the Empire? Learning that their Emperor was off’d by a black hole/supernova rather than an actual battle? Or finding out that their Emperor was defeated by Voltron in a battle with the aid of other rebel factions? The first would have been more likely to help increase the resolve of the Galra, most likely seeing Zarkon as a martyr.

**Building off that, it could also be that the Paladin of the Blue Lion must be someone with potential, potential that they hide out of ignorance, fear, bravado, or whatever the case might be. Look at Lance’s growth across the series. He’s grown far beyond the braggart hot-shot wannabe ladies man that he was in Season 1, and has grown into a respectable pilot and a respectable man by the series end. Same can be said of Allura, who started the series as a young woman with more than a little naïveté and innocence on how the world works, not to mention quite a bit of hate for the Galra for wiping out her entire civilization. And yet, she grew past that anger and ignorance, becoming a respectable leader and hero, not to mention coming into her own as a full-fledged Altean Alchemist. Quite a long way from the Princess who supported from the Castle of Lions.

**That might be part of it, but it could also be that the Galra Empire prefers bloodless conquests whenever possible, so that they can harvest more Quintessence.

* Just how advanced would the Altean Civilition be, at least on a Kardashev scale? They’re advanced enough to create ships that can travel across the universe, have some form of energy-to-matter conversion tech (or at least something that looks like it, based on the Bayards and the various weapons of Voltron), their structures can stand for millennia without wear or tear, and most of their science is more or less magitech. Moreover, they don’t exactly seem to be in desperate need of energy, judging from the Castle of Lions.

* Potentially weird question: in the alternate universe we see in Season 3, where Sven and the evil Alterans are, there only really seems to be one difference: instead of going to cryosleep, Allura managed to fight off Zarkon and defeat him, making her own Alteran Empire in the process and causing other changes down the line. My question is thus: doesn’t that mean that the Alternate Reality has its own Voltron Lions from their own Transreality Comet? If so, where are they?

**It’s possible that they DID have their own Lions at one point, but given that the Lions have their own will, it may be that they left when they realized Allura and her Empire were heading off the deep end. They may have even left that reality entirely, given the properties of the Comet.

*** It's more likely that once the Blue Lion became active, it signaled the Castle of Lions (or the castle detected its activity), which opened a wormhole at its location. This could have been an emergency system set up by Alfor since the Lions were hidden away. Although the Castle was dormant, it wasn't completely inactive, evidenced by the lion being able to open the castle doors.
