** Beka's internal remarks toward Pounce on her first day of patrol. He arrives at the kennel despite Beka's best efforts to keep him inside, and then immediately charms one of her two mentors and trolls the second one. Beka thinks about how well he's pretending to be a mortal, non-supernatural cat, and how he is a ''traitor'' for stroking Clara "as if she were the one who spent precious coppers on meat and cut them up herself".
** We get a new nickname for Beka: Fishpuppy.
** When Pounce has had '''enough''' of being cuddled by Beka's friends ("This is undignified! I am not a toy!") and marches off to find a stray kitten that needs a home and gives it to Aniki. ("I cannot let you maul me about. Do it to him.") And then goes and finds ''another'' one when Kora accuses him of preferring Aniki.
** when Becka says that Rosto's hair is silver, we get this little jewel:

* From the first book, ''Terrier'', we get a new nickname for Beka: Fishpuppy.
