* ''VideoGame/HeroesOfTheSeasons'': At the end of Cameo mode, if the player chooses to listen to Gobi's backstory, he reveals that [[spoiler:Vyena's Holy Order slaughtered his goblin people on Christmas day, leading to him hating Vyena and Christmas. He knows vengeance won't satisfy him, but he's devoted so much of his life to his rage that he doesn't know what else to do. After his defeat, he's willing to hang out with the villagers, but [[SparedButNotForgiven he still can't completely forgive]] Christmas because he associates it with the genocide of his people]].

* Zashiki-warashi from ''VideoGame/{{Onmyoji}}'' has ''huge'' mummy issues. All the families that welcomed her into their homes were only after the good fortune that she brings, so when she meets this widow who actually ''treats her like her child'', Zashiki-warashi goes out of her way to take the lives of young ''yōkai'' and feed them to the woman in order to lengthen her life.

** In ''VideoGame/BaldursGateIII'', Astarion is the most [[KickTheDog callous]] and [[ItsAllAboutMe selfish]] Origin character. As a party member, he loses approval whenever the player takes needless risks for heroic causes or does benevolent acts without expecting payment or reward, and he is all too eager to suggest the most ruthless solution to any problem. He's also the one with the most traumatic past, having spent centuries enslaved and abused by a sadistic vampire, and his motivations stem from [[IJustWantToBeFree an understandable desire to never go back to that nightmare]].

* ''VideoGame/KnightBewitched'': Alduin's mother was a witch who killed his father and took his sister away, leaving him behind to fend for himself when he was still a kid, which is what prompts his extreme hatred of witches. He changes his mind [[spoiler:when it turns out his father was actually killed by an anti-witch mob while defending his mother]].

* In ''VideoGame/DanganronpaAnotherEpisodeUltraDespairGirls'', all of the Warriors of Hope had ''horrifically'' AbusiveParents, which is why they [[SelfMadeOrphan killed them]], and now want to kill all adults in Towa City in order to establish a TeenageWasteland where kids can live free of adult tyranny.
** Masaru's dad was [[AlcoholicParent a drunkard]] who beat him and forced him to go out and buy alcohol and cigarettes, which of course nobody would sell to a child, so he had to steal them, which only got him beaten again. Not for stealing, but for getting caught.
** Jataro's mother hated the sight of his face and forced him to wear a mask at all times, which made him believe he was horrifically ugly and gave him a WantsToBeHated complex. The real reason for the mask was because he was so incredibly ''[[SoBeautifulItsACurse beautiful]]'' that his mother felt taking care of him would require a bunch of extra effort on her part, so she covered up his beauty in order to get out of it.
** Kotoko's StageMom happily [[CastingCouch whored both Kotoko and herself out to producers in exchange for giving Kotoko acting roles]]. Her DepravedDentist father was the one who came up with the idea, and also planned to sell Kotoko as a SexSlave once she hit puberty. [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking He was also cheating on his wife with his dental hygienist]].
** Nagisa's [[EducationMama Education Parents]] raised him like a Franchise/{{Pokemon}}, forcing him to study non-stop for days at a time in order to "gain EXP" and "level up", pumping him full of stimulants to "restore HP" and keep him awake, and using "items" to punish him for slowing down. The worst part is that, unlike Kotoko's mother, they were under no delusions that any of this was for his benefit, it was all purely ForScience. They were running an experiment to see just how much progress a child could make before finally breaking. The results were unsatisafactory and they were planning to replace him with another test subject.
** Monaca was her father's illegitimate child. Her mother didn't want her and dumped her on her father's doorstep, while her father and half-brother treated her extremely coldly and would beat her whenever they weren't ignoring her entirely (said half-brother even says he felt like he was living with an alien rather than a human). Her father warmed up to her only slightly once he discovered she had a genius intellect and could make his company money with her inventions, but still mostly ignored her and let her do her own thing as long as she kept the big bucks rolling in. She also at least managed to get the beatings to stop by [[ObfuscatingDisability pretending to have been permanently crippled as a result of them]], which she noted was the only time her father or half-brother ever showed even the slightest bit of guilt or remorse for the way they treated her.
* The protagonist of ''VisualNovel/DoubleHomework'', in the final chapter, comes to think that Dennis became the way he was in order to imitate his father.

** ''VideoGame/SonicFrontiers'', in one of the unlockable Egg Memos, implies that Maria's death indirectly gave ''Doctor Eggman'' one as well. While he never actually knew Maria, he resents the fact that people only ever talked about her and how special she was, while ignoring him. The implication is that this lack of attention helped shape the doctor's LargeHam persona and [[DoNotAdjustYourSet love of theatrics]].
