* In ''Fanfic/KyonBigDamnHero'', members of the SOS Brigade change the way they address each other as a symbol of their TrueCompanions relationship is strengthening: Tsuruya is called ''Tsu-chan'' by Haruhi and Mikuru(big), and Yuki and Mikuru being called by their first names not only by Haruhi.
* Used in the ''Series/TheXFiles'' / ''Series/EarthFinalConflict'' crossover "Apologia." The young Agent Sandoval asks if he can address Scully as "Dana," because he refuses to give the impression that he's trying to take Mulder's place.
* A classic example of this trope appears in ''Fanfic/WithStringsAttached'' [[spoiler: when, as a sign of his complete HeelFaceTurn, the Hunter asks Paul to start calling him by his first name, Jim. He had already agreed to use the first names of the four that morning, rather than the insulting nicknames he'd come up with for them at the beginning]]. (Originally, when George said that they have names and would he care to hear them, he said “Not especially.”)
* In the VisualNovel/KatawaShoujo fic ''Fanfic/FromShizunesPerspective'', Shizune temporarily switches to calling Emi by her first name rather than "Miss Ibarazaki" to make a point, then despite switching back to calling her by her last name, gradually switches over to her first name. She also points out that Hisao might be "interested" in Emi if he calls her by her first name, causing Misha to react in displeasure [[spoiler:because she is in love with Hisao]]. Shizune also calls Misha by her first name, Shiina, in this fic, instead of her nickname.

* ''Fanfic/CalvinAndHobbesIIIDoubleTrouble'' has two characters named Rupert Chill - one human, one alien. The alien Rupert goes by his first name to avert confusion.
* Nav from ''Fanfic/DiariesOfAMadman'' tends to be on first name terms with almost everyone he meets, royalty and commoners alike. Strangely enough, it's usually those accompanying him that protest over the lack of formality, rather than the recipients.
* Yuzu and Byakuya ran the whole gamut of names and titles in the ''{{Manga/Bleach}}'' fanfics ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/6902577/1/Phases-of-the-Moon Phases of the Moon]]'' and ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/8222340/1/Chasing-the-Moon Chasing the Moon]]''. While Yuzu was in the Academy and Byakuya was helping her train, Yuzu called him "Kuchiki-dono" (Lord Kuchiki) and Byakuya called her [[FullNameBasis "Kurosaki Yuzu"]] [[HeyYou (if he called her anything at all)]]. While Yuzu was still an Academy student but chose to actively involve herself in a battle for the first time, she called him "Kuchiki-taicho" (Captain Kuchiki), signifying that she now sees herself as a shinigami and a (future) member of the Gotei 13. Ten years later, by the time of the sequel, Byakuya now calls her [[LastNameBasis "Kurosaki"]], seeing as she's now his vice-captain, and Yuzu starts referring to him almost exclusively as "Taicho" (just plain Captain). * {{Discussed}} in "Fanfic/AenrhienVailiuri". Tovan tr'Khev tells Jaleh Khoroushi to call him by his first name, because Morgan t'Thavrau, his neighbor and friend for ten years on Virinat and now his captain, doesn't do that anymore and he misses it.
* In ''Fanfic/OutOfTheDeadLand'', Bucky initially switches back and forth between referring to himself and others in his head by their codenames or by their first names depending on [[QuestForIdentity whether he's trying to be the Winter Soldier or Bucky Barnes]] at that particular moment. Kurogane temporarily rescinds this when [[SecondActBreakup he ends their relationship.]] He goes back to using it when he and Syaoran rekindle their bond.
* In ''{{FanFic/Vapors}}'' the main character muses on how few people ever even talk to a [[{{Manga/Naruto}} kage]], let alone have a FirstNameBasis with [[UpToEleven three of them.]] Later on, Anbu captain Fish has been grumpy that he got snubbed by being given a rookie agent for his team. Then they report to the Hokage, who immediately greets Butterfly by name and personally heals her rather minor injuries, while Fish silently [[OhCrap freaks out.]]
* ''FanFic/FireEmblemFatesAftermath'': Due to their close friendship, Silas is not obligated to call Corrin by his title of "King" and can just refer to him by his first name in casual conversation.
* In ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/9495178/1/Return-of-the-Hero Return of the Hero]]'', upon learning that [[spoiler: Kelly isn't his biological mother]], [[Franchise/{{Pokemon}} Nate]] starts addressing her by her name instead of [[spoiler: "Mom".]] He reverts back to calling her [[spoiler: "Mom"]] when she is taken hostage by Cassidy and Butch.
* In MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic fanfic [[https://www.fimfiction.net/story/167424/the-terrifying-prospect-of-swans-in-love The Terrifying Prospect of Swans in Love]], Twilight invariably calls Princess Celestia by her title. However, when she's angry, she slips and just calls her Celestia. At the end of the story, after they get together, Princess Celestia says she would simply like to be called "Celestia" by her henceforth. Twilight jokes that Celestia is ruining all her teenaged fantasies, but likes it better this way.
* In ''[[Fanfic/TwiceUponAnAge All This Sh*t is Twice as Weird]]'', Victoria urges the newest member of [[VideoGame/DragonAgeInquisition the Inquisition]] to "Call me Victoria. Not enough people around here use my first name." (She's normally addressed as "Lady Inquisitor" or "Your Worship.")
* In the ''Kim Possible'' fic ''Fanfic/TheTouchOfGreenFire'', Team Go refer to each other by their superhero names. Shego is the exception. She doesn't like using the names and instead calls her brothers by their actual names. This also shows that she is the odd one out who doesn't want to be on the team.
* In ''Fanfic/MyHuntsmanAcademia'', greeting and social conventions follow the western-style of RWBY, so Izuku gets referred to by his first name a lot more than in his home series, as do Tenya, Tsuyu, Shouto, and Katsuki. Only their teachers, Tenya, and Weiss refer to them by their surnames, reflecting their more distant and professional relationship. Weiss quickly loosens up enough to refer to Izuku and the others by their given names while Tenya remains uptight until others others remind him that he doesn't have to be so formal.
* In ''Fanfic/KarmaInRetrograde'', Touya insists that people refer to him by his given name rather than his surname, Todoroki. This is both to distance himself from [[ArchnemesisDad his father]] and to distinguish himself from his younger brother, Shouto, who is used to being referred to as Todoroki.

** Ami Yuuki refers to all her classmates highly informally, using their first names and "-kun" for boys or "-chan" for girls.
** The use of first names is shown as proof of Kaori Miura's evolving relationship with Sae Edogawa. Shortly after meeting Edogawa, Miura calls her "Sensei" as a form of respect for her favorite author. At the end of Chapter II, Miura, having resolve to treat Edogawa as more of an equal, starts calling her "Edogawa-san." Early on in Chapter IV, Miura and Edogawa switch to calling each other "Sae" and "Kaori" without honorifics, signifying how close they've become.
** Somewhat similarly, Kuro Akasaka and Komaki Katsura start calling the others by their first names and the "-chan" honorific in Chapter III.

** Tatsuki and Taiga Tachibana, who are twin sisters, suggest that their classmates call them by their first names to make it clear who they're talking to.

While the ultra-polite Chiyo usually calls her classmates by their last names and uses "Mr." or "Ms." as appropriate, she calls her ChildhoodFriend Kumiko by her first name.
